Marie Withington was getting tired after a long day of lessons. Having charms first thing had been a good thing as it was one of the areas of magic she had easily started to understand when she was first introduced to it as a first year. Her lesson today had been rather interesting and by the end of it she had managed to learn a new spell. The next one had been herbology which she wasn't very good at but luckily for her Professor Sprout was kind and would always offer her support. Even if most of her class understood magic plants a lot better than her, the girl had put her best effort into the lesson and managed to achieve something at least. After heading to the great hall and eating lunch with some of her housemates at the hufflepuff table, she had checked her timetable with a groan. Her next lesson was potions with Professor Snape and that was definitely no cause for smiling. Inside the potions classroom there had been an air of chatter between friends until the lesson had started and the room appeared to fall silent. Marie managed to make a fairly decent potion but, as usual, it didn't appear to meet the high standards of her professor. It was a relief for her when the day was almost over and teatime had begun. The third year had left her last class of the day and walked down the corridors towards the grand staircase, giving a smile to the people she passed on her journey. Once she got to grand staircase she went down before finally reaching the great hall. Now the girl was there she walked along the hufflepuff table to find that her best friend had saved her a seat. The 13 year old thanked her companion with a smile and picked out what she wanted to eat. One thing she loved about the food at Hogwarts was the variety of it. Every day she could fancy pretty much anything and it would be somewhere close by for her to put on her plate. Today her eyes caught sight of a plate stacked with chicken drumsticks so that was the first thing to go on her plate before picking out what she wanted with it. Once ready, she tucked into her meal and started conversation with her friend between mouthfuls. They both recounted their day with a giggle, including sharing what they learnt from their lessons. This was the part of the day that Marie enjoyed most of all. Spending time with her friends was her favourite thing to do and she did it as much as she possibly could. Teatime seemed to fly because of the conversation and the two girls were both finished with their food. It was an instant decision by Marie to grab dessert to keep the chatter going. The girl chose a delicious looking strawberry trifle with a smile. Once this was also finished, however, the 13 year old bid goodbye to her companion in order to get some rest after the long day she had just had. They had a few minutes arranging what they were going to do in the girl's dormitory that night before the young hufflepuff got up from the table and started to walk towards the large oak doors leading to the entrance hall. She left the hall and started to walk the corridors. The girl knew immediately where she was going to head. She walked downstairs in order to access the dungeons. Although it was where she would go for dreaded potions lessons and home to the slytherin common room, it was also where the warm, cozy hufflepuff common room was situated. For the young girl it was almost like a second home to her. The young hufflepuff could talk and have a laugh with all her housemates, warm up by the large fire on a cold evening and share a dorm with some of her best friends. For a girl like her the hufflepuff common room was like heaven. A large smile was brought to her face at the though of the place where she was heading. The dungeon corridors were fairly quiet apart from the odd hufflepuff and slytherin heading back to their respective common rooms. She could see many conversations between housemates but not many slytherins were talking to the hufflepuffs. The girl was getting closer to where the two houses go their different ways each night when there was a hand clasping her back. The third year turned around with a smile and found another of her dorm mates beaming back at her. Marie laughed happily at the situation and the two friends got absorbed in conversation with each other until her companion sped off towards the common room after waving her goodbye. The young witch watched her friend walk down the corridor, not moving herself. At the same time somebody else had emerged from the common room at tremendous speed, forcing people to move out of the way rather quickly. Surveying the situation the girl saw that the runner was on course to collide with a much older slytherin boy and it didn't look like he had noticed. Marie ran forwards to try and warn him. "Watch out!", she warned loudly. |
