So its a dance? [Thread Four]

So you're at the Hogwarts Ball and the dance has started! It's time to get on the floor with your partner, or mingle by the drinking area. It's all pretty normal, for a dance anyway. Course, what at Hogwarts ever stays normal?

Objective: In this thread, two applicable characters will need to dance or converse by the drinking area. When the Mini Event strikes, make sure you don't trip on your feet! A secondary objective will soon follow!

So, the big day had finally arrived. Which in Alucio’s eyes felt perhaps too soon. The whole thing had been distracting his mind for the last few weeks and now it was here. This was it, his big chance. Okay, not big chance but in Alucio’s eyes he saw it as an opportunity. But then one half of him doubted that it was such a good idea. After all this was simply between friends. Why on earth was he thinking ahead of himself right now? Alucio decided in the end that the whole thing was simply down to nerves and nothing else. But even still as he stood in his place in front of his bedroom mirror, he couldn’t help but feel a glimmer of hope.

Blue eyes looked away from the floor below to instead focus on the mirror in front of him. Alucio glanced over himself briefly, before reaching up and adjusting his dress robes lightly. So, the real question was, what was all the fuss about? Alucio had decided to invite a friend to the ball this year. Now, normally Alucio wasn’t the one for dances but felt he might as well give it a try for once in his life. Lucas had been the one he had decided to ask to take with him. Pulling his hand away from his robes, Alucio reached over for his wand before placing it inside of his robes for just in case. Heart thumping in his chest now, he closed his eyes before taking a long deep breath.

Most would find this perhaps odd. A man who would stand before a Hungarian Horntail unafraid and fascinated, afraid to take a close friend to a silly dance. Ha. What on earth had gotten in to him lately? Tonight Alucio was dressed in a deep royal blue set of his best dress robes, hair styled a little better than usual. His day had been spent sorting out a few cases at The Ministry of Magic, which once over he had returned home and stood in the shower for over half hour thinking. Yes, his mind was certainly distracted today so it would seem. After one last look over himself, Alucio stepped away from the mirror and tried to remain calm. Okay, so perhaps he was acting a little off but it happened to everyone right?

The strangest part of all this though to him, was the fact it was being held at Hogwarts. Never had it struck the Ravenclaw that it would be held there of all places, but in a way he should of have expected it. Once satisfied with how he looked, Alucio stepped away from the mirror. Now on to the next task of the day, that being in the form of actually getting there. Alcuio knew that Hogwarts wouldn’t allow Apparation within the castle walls. And so the only option left seemed simple enough. Coming to a stop in the middle of his bedroom, Alucio soon disappeared with a soft pop. He soon arrived a few moments later, just outside of the gates of Hogsmeade. After checking his surroundings, he quickly entered through the familiar gates and towards the castle.

The ball was a welcome relief from all the chaos that was currently taking over the Wizarding World. Alucio might have not been part of the action here in Hogsmeade, however he had read it all over The Daily Prophet. Walking through Hogsmeade, felt like walking through their future. One full of hatred, darkness and even worse. Death. Alucio glanced around at the various buildings as he made his way up towards the Hogswarts castle gates. Upon approaching them, his eyes glanced over them lightly before he quickly made his way up to the entrance. A sensation of comfort came over the Ravenclaw, as he got closer to the castle. Hogwarts always had felt like a second home to Alucio. The distraction was almost welcoming away from his thoughts and well nerves.

Soon enough he was at the entrance of the castle, which made a smile come to his lips. Hogwarts had clearly not changed much since he had been here; it still looked as magnificent as ever. Alucio had always admired Hogwarts, the place made him feel like he belonged. Pushing away his thoughts, his attention turned to his next task. That being in the form of finding Lucas.

Gucci or Armani had been the question plaguing Lucas since he had been slotted into chaperone duty and had opted to make the most of it. Though he knew the quality of a well-made Muggle suit would be all but entirely lost on the vast majority of the community present, the cut and style would force one realization to the fore. Lucas Mulciber chose to identify himself with high Muggle fashion as opposed to the best of wizarding robes. As a man who could afford either, the choice would speak highly to the Ministry mugs wandering through the crowd tonight, which was of course the point. The reason why he was concerned with the branding at all was the fact his cousins would be present and would know full well what he was wearing. Considering he had opted to invite Alucio as his companion for the night, he wanted to ascertain that said cousins didn’t presume to say anything untoward. A Gucci would say one thing, an Armani, another. The trouble was, not even Lucas really knew what he wanted to say in inviting Alucio along. The man meant a great deal to him for many reasons. They had always been incredibly close, and Alucio had been the only one to stick with him while he had been in Azkaban. The man was so much more than the usual beauty hanging off his arm – the man was a friend. There was a reason Lucas didn’t date, kiss, or shag those in the friend category. Mainly the fact that anything he slept with was consequently discarded when he was done enjoying his time with them. He didn’t have any wish to waste time on pointless commitments and needy lovers and so, he never had. A friendship was ruined by crossing that line, as far as Lucas was concerned at any rate. He’d teasingly dabbled with two in the long ago teenage past, and it was something to this day that was just never talked about. Lucas knew from this that friendship could be maintained after a kiss (or more, in the case of the one) but there was a particular problem where Alucio was concerned that hadn’t been in the cards with the other two. Lucas had been irritatingly attracted to him for years. He’d ignored it flat out from the second it had cropped up, but that didn’t make it any less present. Now, with his freedom complete and with special thanks to a drunken night of not-so-magic-carpets courtesy of Iris, Lucas had found himself openly flirting with the man and inviting him as an escort to the N.E.W.T. ball. Of all the damned, accursed, idiot things to do. In the end, Lucas had settled on Armani and supposed he would just have to wrestle Rayna into submission if she chose to start anything about it. Adjusting his clan ring, Lucas double and triple checked that his arsenal was in place and didn’t crease his suit in any way, shape, or form. The entire purpose of hidden blades and poisons were that they remained hidden, after all. Once assured of this, Lucas slid from the room assigned to him and made his way down to the Great Hall. No sooner had he made it down the stairs, adjusting the cuff of his left sleeve for the third time, did he take note of Alucio in the entranceway. Well. That certainly spared Lucas the trouble of hunting him out. Striding purposefully toward the man, Lucas allowed his eyes to wander while distance kept it hidden. Curse the man, but he looked good. Better than usual. Damn this to hell. Smiling broadly upon reaching his friend, Lucas greeted him warmly. ”Welcome back,” the words were laced with amusement, for the look of nostalgia on Alucio’s face was preciously easy to read. ”Its been years since one of these, hasn’t it?” Lucas mused, looking around them as students and adults filed into the Great Hall. On a mad, mad whim, Lucas held out his arm for Alucio in a way that could easily be read in a manner that would change the tone of this evening considerably if it so happened to be something Alucio picked up on and chose to follow through on. ”Shall we?”

Alucio had been busy taking in all the sights and sounds of Hogwarts. He moved to one side as he waited for Lucas, his back pushing up against the cold stonewall as he did so. The Ravenclaw watched as various students and others made their way, in and out of the Great Hall. Heart thumping harder against his chest now, Alucio continued to look around in search of his best friend. Upon feeling a small amount of sweat forming on his hands, Alucio moved to wipe them lightly on the bottom of his dress robes. Damn it. Normally he was so calm, but tonight was something special to him. Moving to cross his arms over his chest lightly, the Ravenclaw remained quiet and to himself. Every now and again a familiar face brushed by, which caused Alucio to nod lightly back in greeting. Where was he?

”Bet he’s taking his time. Sounds like Lucas.”

Alucio muttered to himself in a joking fashion, as a smile came to his lips at the thought. He watched as a young student raised an eyebrow in his direction, which caused Alucio to grin awkwardly. Okay, so perhaps talking to ones self does look a bit odd. Soon enough he grew bored and was tempted to go find Lucas himself. Maybe the man had pulled out? No, no Lucas would have said something by now. Oh shut up brain. What was going on with him today? Soon enough though, a voice reached his ears and instantly he knew that voice. Alucio turned and was met with Lucas before him. The Ravenclaw took a quick moment to look over the man, before looking back up to quickly to meet his eyes again. Wow, he looked good. Wait, where had that come from?

”There you are. I was afraid the Giant Squid had eaten you.”

Alucio joked playfully as he laughed and winked to the other man. Oh wow. That had to be the worse thing he had ever said. REALLY? When he realised exactly what he had said, Alucio grinned awkwardly to Lucas. Smooth real smooth Doukas. When he heard the comment about welcoming him back, the Magizoologist nodded.

”Thanks; it feels so weird to be back in these walls. Yes, it feels like I never left.”

Alucio replied simply as he looked back around the room again, then down to the next surprise of the night. He had picked up the small amount of amusement in his friend’s tone and so grinned at it. When he saw an arm being offered out to him, Alucio stood for a moment trying to work out what was going on. Oh come on. The guy is just trying to be a friend. Wait. Hold on a second. No way. Moving his hand out, Alucio took the arm gently and instantly felt a familiar sensation fill his stomach. Wow, he sounded like a girl right now. You are a grown man Alucio. Maybe he was getting things wrong, but either way he was happy to see Lucas again.

”It’s good to have you back.”

The Ravenclaw said casually as he looked to Lucas eye to eye, then looked towards the Great Hall. There was no denying it, the two had always been close and yes, Alucio had missed the man more than he would ever admit.

Lucas laughed at that, imagining the squid taking a shot at it. ”I welcome him to try!” lucas replied boisterously, cheerful challenge laced through his words. ”I say if he succeeds, he is a formidable opponent indeed but shall be very disappointed in the flavor of his meal. Elsewise, I say it’d simply turn into calamari for everyone,” Lucas’ grin was as playful as it was subtly threatening, as though the idea of taking out the giant squid seemed like a challenge he wouldn’t pass down if it came down to it, but he wouldn’t actively seek the fight out. He nodded slightly at Alucio’s comment, understanding the feeling well. Hogwarts had a way of burrowing itself in the mind, of making itself a home that could never be forgotten no matter the memories hidden in her halls. ”She certainly has that affect,” Agreed lightly as he gazed around them, before watching Alucio’s face closely as he held his arm out, looking for – he wasn’t sure what he was looking for, honestly. There was a hint of apprehension – even embarrassment – as Alucio took his arm and, for some reason, Lucas felt this was a good thing. Smiling, he laid his hand over Alucio’s and responded sincerely, ”It is good to be back.” If anyone understood how much this freedom meant to Lucas, it was Alucio. Though Severus came a close second, Alucio had been the only one to come and see him in the small prison cell Azkaban’s high security section had afforded him. Alucio had been the one to hear what, by all rights, should have been his last words. Turning away before he could say anything foolhardy, Lucas led Alucio into the Great Hall without further ado. The music had already begun, and couples had already taken to the dancefloor while many others continued to circle the tables. He thought a moment, before looking to Alucio with a challenging gleam in his gaze. ”Care to dance, Alucio?”
