Lavinia was curled up in her favourite spot of the library, reading. She was always reading; that wasn't anything new. She was reading, today, about a new kind of herb. It was supposed to make potions longer lasting; although the research on that was inconclusive. She knew where she could find that very herb on the school grounds; it was just a matter of testing it out for herself. She'd have to make some of her hair tinting potion, that would change your hair to any colour you could think of for up to an hour. A purely frivolous potion, and purely harmless. It would be a good test medium, since the risks would be mnimal.
La-La glanced out the window. She was missing out on the fun, according to her friends. They were playing catch on their brooms. That was no La-La's idea of fun. She only flew when it was absolutely necessary. Besides, she owed three foot-long scrolls in three different classes for the week after. And Lavinia never did any assignment half-baked. Everything had to be perfect; she would never dream of handing in an essay that wasn't thoroughly researched and edited to the last semi-colon.
She went up to get the book she needed, which was right on the middle shelf of a bookcase quite close to her. As she walked, she noticed someone. Someone she had seen around, but never had spoken to. He was certainly good-looking, she wasn't sure why she hadn't introduced herself at some point. No, she did. For one thing, the day Lavinia Charles introduced herself to a cute boy was the day that Professor Snape actually smiled for once. And, she noted, his school robes had the telltale green. She never got along with Slytherins, despite the fact her entire family, going back to the formation of Hogwart's inaugral class, had been Slytherins. That was probably why. It was no secret she was supposed to be a Slytherin. She had been teased and bullied by Slytherins for it all six years she had been at the school. She doubted this boy was any different.
