OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Minerva almost constantly exuded magnanimity and sternness and was held in great respect (and some fear) by nearly all students and staff. She tolerated neither talking nor silliness from her pupils. She turned cold towards people who said or did things in front of her that were stupid, or if she thought they were trying to be funny.

Despite her strict demeanor, Minerva did have a fun side. She was an avid Quidditch fan, and loves cats. She also exhibits a dry sense of humor which usually comes out when times are tough. True to a Gryffindor, Minerva values bravery and loyalty highly. Minerva is not afraid of speaking her mind and has quite a sharp tongue sometimes. For the most part, though, she usually maintaines great emotional composure.However, Minerva McGonagall is not an unfeeling woman. She can be very warm and supportive during times of trouble and cares a great deal about her students, both personally and academically.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION: Minerva McGonagall is first described as a tall, rather severe-looking woman, and later as a "sprightly" sixty year old. She often wears emerald green robes or her favorite tartan pattern. She also wears a pointed hat cocked to one side, and always has a very prim expression. She rarely lets her black/grey hair down and the majority of the time has it combed back into a tight bun. Minerva is a fan of tartan print and often wears it to Quidditch games along with a woolly hat covering her ears. Minerva wore square spectacles that matched the markings around the eyes of her Animagus and Patronus: a silver tabby cat.

OVERALL HISTORY:
Minerva McGonagall was born on the outskirts of Caithness in the Scottish Highlands, on 4 October, 1935 to Robert McGonagall, a Muggle Presbyterian minister, and his wife, Isobel Ross, a witch. She was the couple's first child, and was named after her mother's grandmother, an immensely talented witch.

As an infant, Minerva had little to no skill of controlling her magica talents. She was able to get toys that were no where near in her reach and had an uncanny connection with the family cat. This not only sparking her love for cats, but later down the road her patronus and animagius form.

After her two brothers were born, Minnie often times helped her mother to hide the "embarrassing" things the young wizards would do by accident from their rather disapproving father. She has a solid relation with both her mother (until she died), and her two brothers now still.

At age eleven she got her letter to Hogwarts. Minerva attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a pupil from 1947 to 1954. Her sorting ceremony was unorthodox, meaning she was a struggle for the hat to place. It took a good five minutes to decide between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, finally deciding to place her in the latter. She and Prof. Sprout were colleagues during their time at school and have remained close over the years, even now as they teach.

Minnie was considered to be one of the brightest witches of her age while at Hogwarts. She did extremely well on her OWLS and NEWTS examinations, proving to be most talented in Transfiguration, later to become her subject of teaching. She was also an avid player and fan of Quiddich. Minerva was a part of the Gryffindor team during her years at the school, but her seventh year to decide the winner of the Quiddich Cup versus Slytherin, she was aggressively fouled and fell from her broom. This caused broken ribs and a concussion, and cost her any more games of the rough sport. That topic is still a sensitive one...she wishes she was still able to beat Slytherin to this day and simply adores it when they lose to Gryffindor.

After graduating from Hogwarts, Minerva was offered a position at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement of the British Ministry of Magic. During these months Minerva felt dissatisfied with this job, and after a brief love affair decided to return to Hogwarts as a professor.

Through her early years at Hogwarts, Minerva remained close friends with her former authority, Elphinstone Urquart. During one visit, he proposed marriage to Minerva at Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop. Surprised, caught off guard, rather embarrassed, and still in love with Dougal, she declined. Elphinstone, however, had never stopped loving her and proposed every now and then, even though she continued to refuse him. She eventually said yes after finding out that Dougal married another woman; but their happy marriage was cut short after Elphinstone's accidental death from a deadly venom from a bite of a spider.

After a few years teaching, she later replaced Dumbledore as Head of Department after he ascended to the position of Headmaster. As a teacher, Minerva is a disciplinarian, maintaining control of her students with a firm hand that made her someone not to be crossed and possibly feared by some. Later on in her career, Minerva would also be appointed the position of Head of Gryffindor House. Albus Dumbledore would later on in his career also allow her to become Deputy Headmistress of the school and fill in for him on the occasions of his absence.
