August 23rd, before term starts

Dear Diary,

It's the anniversary of Dad's death. Mum's still missing. I wish she'd just show herself already. There'd be ways to keep her safe. I've been sending owls to Dumbledore, and he promises me he'd help keep her safe, despite everything she's done wrong. But my mother hasn't tried to contact me, so I have no idea where she could be to try and tell her that.

Last year was...well, it was interesting. That's for sure. Everything is changing now. It's almost like I feel like this could be my last year at school. Likes something bad is going to happen. Nothing good can come out of the Dark Lord returning. But he won't attack the school, will he? Not as long as Dumbledore's there. You'd have to be an idiot not to fear Dumbledore. People say he's nutters... he's not. Everyone else is.

I'm on the train on my way back to London. I'm going to spend my last bit of holiday staying at the Leaky Cauldron, and getting my school supplies. It'll be nice to see my friends again. And I'm excited to go back to school so I can practice my spells. I've done enough theory, it'd be nice to do some practical work. Until next time, then.
