it's over but what if we just pretend
Remus John Lupin. It was a name that Andie was familiar with, but not one that she had heard in a while- at least until recently. Now, it seemed that Remus’ name was everywhere- in the Order, in conversations about werewolves, and, most importantly, in the mouths of the two people that Andie loved the most. When Andie had caught wind of her daughter’s infatuation, her interest had understandably been piqued. Dora wasn’t one to get into things lightly, and she had never been serious about anyone that Andie had known about- but this, this was serious. Not that Dora had told her, exactly (Dora didn’t tell her anything,) but Ted had seen it. And if there was one thing Andie knew her husband was particularly good at, it was reading people.
So naturally, Andie had done exactly what any curious mother would have done in her position- she had respected Ted’s desire to have a man-to-man talk with the boy himself (okay, the other man, as Remus was nearly her own age,) and she had politely requested a meeting of her own, unknown to either her daughter or husband. She had spent all morning getting dressed and redressed, not quite sure how one was supposed to present themselves for such an occasion. She had finally settled on fitted jeans and a green sweater that matched her eyes, not wanting to appear too matronly (given Remus was, after all, only a year or two younger than her,) but not wanting to appear too much like a peer, either. This wasn’t exactly a melding of the minds on some school project- this was about her daughter, and Andie was determined to get some answers.
Tucking her hair behind her ears, she patted her jeans pocket to make sure that she had enough galleons (after all, the least she could do was buy the poor bloke a meal while she interrogated him,) and then grabbed the container of fudge from the front table. Andie wasn’t a big fan of sweets, but years of living with Ted had made her quite the connesieur of chocolates- which, from what she remembered at school, was one of Remus’ favorite things. She couldn’t come up with a better peace offering, for while she had plenty of things to ask Remus, she really did mean him no harm. If he made Dora happy, well, who was Andie to say anything about it?
Holding the container of fudge close to her chest, Andie apparated to Hogsmeade village, looking around as she remembered which direction the Leaky Cauldron was in. She had suggested the tavern as a sort of joke, given that she and Remus were meeting up for the first time since she graduated, she had thought that meeting in an old school haunt might be a fun way to break the ice. Breezing in, Andie was reminded of the times she and Sirius would sneak out and meet up there, and then, later, those dates she had shared with Ted over butterbeer. It was a place full of happy memories, and it quite fit the ambiance Andie was hoping for. She took a seat near the back, away from other patrons, and ordered herself a firewhiskey as she waited.
