Do you not see how I’m begging on my knees? Don’t speak, don’t breathe. You bring out the devil in me It was still early for the Charms class, but a little flock of students had already assembled in front of the room, lowly chatting with each other. Amongst them was Eirian, excitedly letting herself being filled with the usual emotions at the beginning of the term: curiosity for what would be awaiting them, excitement about new things to learn, and content to so far staying true to her various schedules. These were completely logical sentiments, after all, at least for a girl such as Eirian, so she wasn’t even too troubled about it. Holding her book close to her, she was immerged in a lively conversation with Padma Patil and her sister Parvati, who told her about their holidays. Eirian liked the twins very much, though sometimes it was hard to get a word in edge-wise when the two of them were sticking together. With Padma, Eirian had shared a dorm ever since them both being sorted into Ravenclaw, and she remember the annoyance all too well that had followed the seperation of the twins. But then, the Sorting Hat probably knew best, and while Parvati and Padma looked so alike you could confuse them easily, their personalities were quite different. “And what have you been up to over summer?”, Padma finally asked, which brought a smile to Eirian’s face. Her summer had been wonderful, a full two months of being at home, surrounded by the people she loved most. If it hadn’t been for her grandfather’s ghost, who still haunted the rooms and warned her of the Grim, taking every opportunity to harass the girl who was away for most of the year, she would have been thoroughly happy. Seriously, he had never been a nuisance while still living... but being foretold his own death and then dying in a fire that no one had any idea of how it had even started, must have really shaken him to the core. She had tried to talk to him once, getting some information out of him, but he refused to speak apart from the muttered warnings and sighs. She really could have done with a more intelligently acting ghost, like for example those who were living in Hogwarts. Apart from the Bloody Baron maybe, they were always up for a little chit-chat... ever assumed you aspired a conversation with a ghost. “Well, we had quite an interesting group of visitors for about three weeks”, she explained. “Relatives of my mother’s from Hawaii. The thing is, it was some cousin of hers and their children, and since my mom’s muggleborn, we had to act like a ‘normal’ family all these three weeks. Well, I was not allowed to use magic anyway, but getting pre-studies done and explaining why on earth I had an owl as a pet was quite a challenge, I tell you.” The twins laughed and gave approving remarks, while Eirian re-adjusted her bag and took a quick look about at the ever growing mass of students. “I’m just glad my family’s ... so easy on that aspect. We loved the challenge, even Alice played along, and there was no odd word thrown in as to having to keep up appearances. I’d know quite a few families where they wouldn’t even dream of acting like that. But seeing both sides of a coin is such an enrichment, if you ask me. So much to learn!” © melly welly from caution 2.0 | LYRICS BY KATE VOEGELE OUTFIT: HERE | 566 WORDS | NOTES: Hope that’s okay |
