It was impossible to shake and he wanted to share it with George but his brother was nowhere to be found. The idea was for another candy in the Skiving Snackboxes. It was a candy that would create a bunch of red itchy blotches all over the consumer. The blotches were going to be similar to chicken pox. It was a great idea and Fred was sure that George would approve once he told him. However, he didn’t have to tell his brother about the candy yet. In fact, his brother would make a fantastic tester if he didn’t know about it. As long as the pox weren’t contagious like the real ones Fred was in the clear. A mischievous smile was plastered to his face at the thought. Anyone could see that the twin was clearly up to something. Fred pushed open the door to Flourish and Blotts and set off to the health section. He needed to learn a bit about the pox to be able to replicate it. The twins had a few books lying around the shop. However, he wasn’t sure where they were, and he didn’t want to bother looking. Also, if George caught him looking through a book he would want to know what his twin was up to. Fred didn’t want to take the chance of George catching him and wanted it to be a surprise for his dear brother. To his dismay, the books in the health section weren’t very helpful. That or he didn’t know where to look. Fred skimmed the titles glancing over things like: Measles & Me

[/u], Potions for the Common Cold[/u], & Magical Ailments[/u]. Frowning, he walked further down the row of books looking for something more specific to the particular illness. “Pox, Pox, Pox…” he mumbled the mantra to himself before he finally found a book extremely specific to his needs. He pulled a book off the shelf that had to do with itching. It was perfect. Fred noticed an armchair at the end of the isle in the corner of the store and set out to it. He wasn’t sure if he was going to buy it, and why not glance at it first? Plus, if he could remember what he needed to know then there was really no point of buying it at all. Satisfied with his mental plan, he plopped down into the chair and opened to the index of the book. He found Chicken Pox easily and opened to the page. Hermione would have been proud. His lips spread into a shit-eating grin at the image on the page. If he were able to create that effect on George then it would be perfect. Any teacher would let a student out of class if they looked like that. He snorted at the thought and continued skimming the page, trying to understand the concepts of the virus and how to replicate it.

Today was the usual situation for whenever Hermione came to Diagon Alley (though shopping was getting more and more difficult as more and more shops closed down - really, the please was starting to look a bit like Knockturn Alley). She needed more supplies, as she was working on her summer homework, obviously, and naturally her parents didn't have what Hermione needed to continue. So, after stopping her Ancient Runes summer essay last night, Hermione was determined to find what she needed today. Now, granted, Hermione didn't need a book to finish it. In fact, she already had three that were sufficient enough to write an outstanding essay, but this was Hermione Granger. She was always on the hunt for something new to read, to stick her nose into. So she pushed her way into the store, took in the familiar smell of books, smiled, and immediately went to the front table of new shipments. After her meeting with Nathanyal before a week or two ago, Hermione's eyes had been widely opened to the world of literature. And so, now, she'd made a mental note to come to this table every time she entered the store. There were a few that seemed interesting, but most of them were far too expensive for her to purchase, such as books like A Dragon Tamer's Handbook (which was a first edition and the pages looked singed), Perilous Adventures in Blackwater, and other copies that were either too expensive or too off topic for Hermione to consider. After all, she was mostly conducting research this summer, on Dark magic and other various things of interest to her schooling. The clerk nodded to her and muttered a quiet greeting, and Hermione smiled at him as he passed. It was probably a bad sign that practically the entire staff at this store knew her by her first name, but of course the soon-to-be sixth year didn't care. She tucked a strand of her bushy, curly hair behind an ear and decided that she would probably have better luck amongst the shelves. She always did. She was headed for the Defense section when she saw him. Hermione's eyebrows raised in surprise at seeing Fred Weasley, of all people, in a bookstore, poring over something with words in it. Intrigued and caught off-guard, she automatically wandered over towards him, her venture to look through Defense books briefly forgotten. Curiosity in her chocolate brown eyes, she came up behind his chair and looked down at what he was reading. Befuddlement came over her further, and her eyebrows furrowed. "You do know that chicken pox is a very contagious Muggle sickness, don't you?" she asked distastefully, wondering what had even got him interested on the subject. "Why on earth are you even reading about such a topic?" [/style]

In fact, this was one of the first times. Generally when he was doing research his twin was with him and the not much research usually got done. He couldn’t help but think that this was almost relaxing though, and could understand why people liked to read. Not something as boring as a book about diseases, but something a little more upbeat and fun. He made a mental note to actually buy a book he liked while he was in here. As he was reading he completely failed to notice the bushy-haired girl come up behind him. At the sound of her voice he almost jumped, but instead a strange warmness filled his body. It was generally a cold day in hell that Hermione talked to him. Not, scolded him, but actually talked to him. Though, he wasn’t sure if she was going to scold him or not. Hell, he wouldn’t put it past her. He closed the book over on his index finger so he would be able to keep his place then turned his head so he could look at her. Fred took in a sharp breath. She looked like a completely different person since he last remembered. It was as if one morning she woke up and changed into a woman, a beautiful one at that. For once in his life his brain went completely fuzzy. He swallowed and tried to process what she had said to him. Why am I acting like such a git, talk! He thought, bringing his brain out of the fuzz. “I know that it’s contagious, wizards have something similar to it. Just doesn't last as long as Muggles deal with that horrid virus. George and I had it when we were kids, and I thought it would made a nice edition to the Snackbox…only without the contagious part.”

[/color] He rambled, opening the book again and showing her the picture. “I’m going to test it on George!” [/color]He exclaimed. He was clearly proud of his new idea. Honestly, he wasn’t even sure why he was telling her all of this. When he and George were coming up with products they typically kept it a secret until they needed to be tested or even until it was actually out on the shelves. Fred wasn’t really sure why they did it, but that it was just something him and his brother shared.

He opened his mouth to talk, but then closed it. He was going to ask why Hermione was here, but that was a stupid question. A better one would have been ‘when are you not here?’ but he didn’t want to make her angry either. However, she was a tad cute when she was angry. Fred took in another breath. His thoughts were all over the place and Granger was the sole reason for it. He shut his book again and pushed himself out of the chair before tucking the book under an arm. “How’ve you been?” [/color]He asked. His lips were tugged in a slight smile that hadn’t left his face since she snuck up behind him. “I haven’t seen you in awhile.” The corner of his mouth pulled up into a lopsided grin. It was always nice to see her, especially when there was no danger involved in it. He honestly wasn’t sure how she did it, always throwing herself in dangerous situations with Harry. The basilisk was probably the worst that he remembered. That gave him a scare. He didn’t exactly know here back then, but she was still Ron’s friend and he didn’t want her to be dead. The thought made his smile falter for a split second before he composed himself.
