Rosmerta usually worked the Hogsmeade weekends because she really enjoyed interacting with the students and the teachers, but she had become sick with some sort of flu-ish thing and took the day off. This left Vincent to be working the weekend, by himself. Well, except for the waiters and waitresses. Thankfully, Lucy would not be working this weekend. Lucy was one of the worst waitress that Rosmerta had hired.

Honestly, Vincent had no idea why she had hired the girl; she must have been really pressed for employees. Vincent was often cursed with having to work with this particular waitress, who had a habit of taking non-existent breaks and refusing to serve customers, among other things of the like. Things that should have gotten her fired by any other employer.

The flow of business had been pretty busy that day, as there were plenty of students coming from Hogwarts to spend the day in Hogsmeade. Vincent was unable to leave his post because none of the waiters or waitresses were quite as good at mixing drinks as he was. He took a big bite out of the sandwich he had thrown together before coming in to work. All of he employees knew just how busy Hogsmeade weekends were incredibly busy, so he had thought ahead and prepared himself for not having a break.

There was a small lull in the flow of people ordering their drinks, so he took his chance. Finishing off the sandwich, he got rid of the bag and downed a glass of water to prepare himself for any customers that would come up to the bar. Hopefully this time, he wouldn't have to kick anyone out. He usually was in charge of the evening shifts, so he was pretty used to booting drunks out of the inn. Vincent couldn't help but to be a little bit suspicious that may have been one reason that swayed Rosmerta to hire the ex-hit wizard.

He rested the empty glass of water in the sink behind him, he would clean it later. Flipping the towel that had been resting on his shoulder down to the bar, he began needlessly wiping it down.

It was a great place to be with people, and enjoy the weekend after a long time of studying and working. Except that Eirian found it completely legitimate to combine one with the other. She didn’t even know herself what it was, but she found the humming and buzzing athmosphere of the pub extremely inspiring for her work and in general, far more inspiring in any way than the thick silence of the library and the general noise of the common room ever would be. Was she crazy? No, hopefully not, but still, Eirian could be seen eight times out of ten with an unfinished essay and a quill in her hand – at least when she didn’t plan on meeting with friends that was, she wasn’t a complete sociopath after all. This time, she was working on an Arithmancy essay, a particularly tricky number chart being the subject to develop. But that was the challenge, right? Arithmancy often enough came as close to riddles as you could get with schoolwork, and anyone knowing Eirian just a little knew that she lived for the solving of riddles, whether they came in word or in number form. There was just one kind of riddle she would probably have a hard time solving for the rest of her life, and that was the riddle of emotions, and people being dictated by them. How come a guy or a girl could act perfectly logical and grown-up most of the time, but when they got faced with some strong emotion, they turned into morons, no matter if it was rage, sadness or, goodness, love?! It wasn’t right that emotions should have such a strong hold over your brain, there was just something so un-dignified in acting all out on feelings. Gladly, Eirian had so far been untroubled by most of these feelings, and she was still able to think with a clear head on her shoulders – except for the nights, when the bad dreams and the memories came, when she winced at every dog barking in the distance, or when she felt the gut-wrenching sensation of shame and fear boiling up inside her, when she had get close to an open fire and heard the sizzling and cracking of wood being eaten up by its hungry flames. That had diminished over the last few years thankfully, but it sadly piped up in moments where she least expected it – and it was Eirian’s greatest horror to be dominated by such irrational fear. Sighing, she realized that her thoughts were wandering too much today, maybe she should give Arithmancy a break? Vincent had picked up several of his bartending habits from his friend, Tobias, who used to be a really good friend of his father’s. Tobias owned a diner creatively called ‘Toby’s’ in Muggle London. Vincent had spent the majority of the summers during his Hogwarts years in that diner. And against his better judgment, Tobias had actually left Vincent in charge of the diner several times when someone needed help with their car or when he had to help solve a problem. One thing about Tobias’s diner was that it was ridiculously clean, so when Vincent worked there, he tried to make sure that he kept it as clean as Tobias would have if he were there.

Which was why Vincent had a habit of wiping down the bar, even when it was completely clean and dry. Rosmerta had commended him on his cleanliness of the bar several times, so he would have to send a note to Tobias, thanking him. It had actually been awhile since Vincent had last seen Tobias. Maybe they would able to catch a drink together some time soon.

He looked up from his concentration of making sure the bar was completely clean when he heard a quiet greeting. The greeting came from a young girl, who Vincent assumed was a student from Hogwarts. “Hey,” he said to the girl, flipping the towel back over his shoulder,” What can I get you?”

Vincent nodded. “Butterbeer? Comin’ right up.” He turned around and grabbed a mug from the shelf behind the bar. “Having a good Hogsmeade trip?” he asked, glancing over his shoulder at the girl,”I mean…assuming you are a student.”

He really hoped that he hadn’t misjudged the girl. There was several times, where he had wrongly assumed someone was a student up at the school and they had gotten extremely offended when he asked how their studies were going. He felt bad, but it wasn’t as if he had assumed they were older than they really were. Most people would take that as a compliment. Most people.
Whipping his wand out, he tapped the mug, causing it to become frosted all over. Next, he moved over to the large keg of butterbeer and started pouring the golden liquid into the now frosted glass.

“Here ya go,” he said, carefully setting it down on the counter in front of the girl. “Can I get you anything else?”

Nothing against Madam Rosmertha, but especially on the busy weekends, when students of Hogwarts came flocking in, there was often more chaos than anything, and she hadn’t seen the woman wield a towel during her shift, she probably cleaned everything up in the evening, and it wouldn’t have even come to Eirian’s notice, hadn’t the difference been so striking. Looking at the wet towel, something pricked the back of her mind, as if she should make some connection she wasn’t yet capable of making, but she pushed it aside for later. Whatever it would be, it could wait, right? Right now, she should focus on getting a butterbeer and maybe work a bit on that number chart later. “Having a good Hogsmeade trip?”, the young man asked, and Eirian who wasn’t averse to a bit of chit chat right now, smiled and nodded. The hastily added afterthought made her smile even wider and she gave a light chuckle. Did she look older than her age of sixteen? That would actually be the first time it happened, but maybe it was the clothes she was wearing? “Don’t worry, you were spot-on with it. I’m having a good trip so far, yes, it looks like I could get my assignments done before classes start again on Monday, so it was very productive in any way.” That was probably not what most people would count under a good Hogsmeade weekend, since most students were all too happy to let go of their schoolwork for these special days. Eirian herself made her typical rounds into Honeydukes and Scrivelshaft’s, but she wasn’t known to spend her money so much in Zonko’s like her fellow student’s liked to. It wasn’t very logical after all to waste so much money on joke articles that had no real use aside from cramming your room and making it untidy. With a slight smile on her face, Eirian watched him preparing the mug with magic; it was those little things that made her love the magical world, like someone using it without even thinking about it. Coming from a mixed family, she still knew what it was like to get things done without magic, and sometimes she found that even better. Her uncle Cadfael for example was a muggle, living with his equally muggle wife and their non-magical children, intrigued by the world his elder brother belonged to, but sworn to secrecy. “Need to know only” was his motto concerning the whole issue, and his kids, twins of the age four, didn’t even know something was out of the ordinary with their uncle Gwillym. ”Thanks”, she said as she received the glass, but then shook her head. “Wait two more years and then I’d maybe take you up on an offer of one of those drinks I've seen you produce. But for now it’s gonna be butterbeer only”, she concluded with a smile, her eyes yet again settling on the wet towel for some reason. And then, just like that, it made ‘click’ in her head and she suddenly KNEW. She knew why the towel should be interesting to her… and she knew the answer to something. Her right hand darted up to her forehead and she exclaimed: “Merlin, how stupid I’ve been! "Sorry, sometimes I misinterpret people's ages and they get pretty upset, "he said with a laugh and a shrug. He remembered one woman that turned out to be about ten years older than he thought she was, and Vincent thought she was going to end up trying to rip his head off. She turned out to be some sort of higher up Ministry member and had threatened to sue him or press charges for emotional damage or something like that. So Vincent ended up having to give her several free drinks and sides in order to calm her down, along with spouting apology after apology. "Some people are pretty touchy about their age...or appearance," he added with another shrug.

"Well, that's always a good feeling," he said, laughing. That wasn't exactly what he was expecting to hear regarding a student's Hogsmeade weekend. Usually when he asked that questions to students, he got something along the lines of how good it felt to have a break from school, or how nice it was to have fun for a change. "You wouldn't happen to be in Ravenclaw, would you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He had two really good friends that had been in Ravenclaw and studying and doing research was pretty much what they saw as 'fun.' "What classes are you taking this year?" he asked curiously. Vincent found it a little interesting what specific classes that certain people chose in their Hogwarts years.

"Well, if you ever get bored of butterbeer, I could mix you up a fun non-alcoholic drink," he said, grinning at the girl. Over the years, despite his aversion to actually drinking alcohol, he had become a very accomplished bartender. It took him by surprise because he had been so terrible at mixing potions while he was in school. They were kind of the same, after all: mixing ingredients together to make something new. "Huh?" he asked, looking down at his shoulder and picking up the towel once again,"What about the towel?"

Why should anyone get upset if you misjudged their age?! Many people weren’t good at educated guesses anyway, and people so often didn’t look their age. And then, being upset when being judged YOUNGER?! That might be an issue for a five-year old who desperately wanted to be of school age, but in Eirian’s opinion everyone should be glad they were not looking their age. In fact, usually Eirian was the one taken for a third year instead of a sixth year, but she only corrected the people calmly and didn’t get upset. She DID look a bit younger, she knew that, so why should she blame people who didn’t know her and could only judge by her appearance? “I don’t understand much why”, she commented with a shrug, “but then, most emotions are pretty illogical, when you think about it. People get touchy about the silliest things, while those they get angry at are mostly not even at fault.” Eirian felt a smile creeping over her lips. Well, if anything, this young man was good company for now and he did seem to have a head on his shoulder. Not that it might have been a difficult deduction to classify her as Ravenclaw, but still, he was definitely being nice about it. “I don’t think I have to ask what gave me away”, she replied and gave a soft chuckle. “Again, spot on. I think the Sorting Hat knew why Ravenclaw would be just the house for me, I think he decided in under five seconds. And… after my OWLs last year, I decided to continue with Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Charms, DADA, History of Magic and Transfiguration. Dropping Potions though might have been a mistake in hindsight … I had some issues with it all my schoollife through, and never got rid of them. So I thought, why bother… and then I realized I might have needed it after all.” Then again, he probably wasn’t interested in that long of a sermon about her school choices, even if he had asked. And she surely wouldn’t go all open about her reasons for not being able to handle Potions. Goodness, she had even nearly had a heartattack once as a Gryffindor in Charms set something on fire… on to better topics! The prospect of a non-alcoholic drink mixed together did sound very appealing indeed. Her mother was sometimes mixing tropical drinks at home she had been taught when still in Hawaii, and those evenings of experimenting, sitting together and just having the best family time imaginable – as long as Alice kept from picking on Eirian too much of course – were a treasure of fond memories for Eirian. Thus, the taste of tropical fruit juices were always linked with something pleasant. “You know what, that sounds like an excellent idea!”, she agreed. “It’s long since I last had a good tropical fruit mix.” Of course he would not get her comment about the towel, and Eirian hadn’t even intended to exclaim it for him to hear, but she had found herself simply too excited to finally having solved this riddle that had been spooking around in her head for hours and hours. “Sorry, it’s just… I’ve been thinking on a riddle for quite some time. ‘What gets wetter the more it dries’ – and of course, the answer is a towel. Vincent laughed and nodded when he heard what the girl said. "Yeah, I would definitely say that," he said with a half shrug,"People need to learn to...I don't know. Think before they act when it comes to emotions."

The word hypocrite, hypocrite, hypocrite kept racing through Vincent's mind after he stopped talking. When it came to Vincent's emotions and how he reacted to them, he was the worst when it came to letting his emotions control what he did. Mostly his temper and allowing things to get under his skin when they really shouldn't. It was really something that he needed to work on.

“Wow,” said Vincent with raised eyebrows,”Those sound pretty tough. Do you have time for all those classes?” When he was in Hogwarts, he tended to not take any more classes than he could possibly handle. He had a habit of getting stressed very easily and the homework just made him all too nervous. However, the classes that he did take, he was pretty good at…besides potions. Ugh, potions. He’d never understand the concept of stirring at the exact correct time and way. The ingredients, he completely understood, that was the easy part. “Potions, huh? I was never good at that particular class.”

Vincent laughed at the girl’s sudden change of heart regarding he drink. “Alright!” he said, grinning as he flipped the towel back over his shoulder and turned to the wall, where there was an assortment of juices and flavorings. “I’ll fix you up something real quick here.” He pulled out another glass, chilled it with his wand and began fixing a tropical drink for the girl. When he was done mixing the drink, the majority of it was yellow with some red at the bottom and red sugar around the lip of the glass. “No charge for this,” he said, sliding it across the bar to her,”How d’you like it?”

Usually by now she would be given the odd eye about her detached view on emotions, since most of the people she knew were perfectly okay with being ruled by them… or they didn’t even think about it, and became slightly offended because they thought the voiced criticism was being personal… which just started the neverending confusion chain again. Seriously, you had to tread on eggshells with some people! “Exactly my point!” she exclaimed rather elatedly and gave him a mocking salute with her butterbeer, taking the last sip of it with a delightful sigh. “By the way, I’m Eirian. Only just occurred to me we haven’t even introduced.” It was amazing, wasn’t it, how long you could actually have a conversation going with nothing mattering but a similar opinion and an initial reason to talk. Eirian surely preferred it that way, but for courtesy’s sake and for not always having to call him ‘the guy’ in her head, she’d like a name to go with his friendly persona. Had she been taken too many classes? Hmm… not really in her eyes, though she had surely chosen those with the hardest schedules to observe. There simply wasn’t as much to do or care about with Herbology or Care of Magical Creatures. Still, for someone adverse to learning and studying hard, it would probably not be such a pleasing thing than it clearly was for Eirian. Why spend most hours of the day idly anyway? She liked the way she had her days organized: Classes most of the morning and the afternoon was divided in studying, Quidditch training and reading. When the time permitted it, she would also sometimes take a stroll outside with her friends, or they would sit in the Ravenclaw common room. The weekends had the additional perk of Hogsmeade, the Wizard Chess Club over which Eirian was presiding together with the other House Chess Champions and the Quidditch Games. “It’s not too much, if that’s what you’re getting at”, she replied with a smile. “But then, I guess it always depends on your priorities in life. I like studying, so I don’t mind spending the majority of my time with it.” Cocking her head in interest, she listened to his claims about never having been good at potions. “Well, for that you do seem to make an excellent barkeeper though. But I guess there's a difference?” Surprised at his kind and unexpected offer, Eirian leaned forward and examined what he was mixing together over the bar counter. “Wow, thanks. That’s quite sweet of you!” she remarked and took the glass carefully in her hands, taking a first, measuring sip, that immediately made her face light up. “Merlin, that’s delicious!she exclaimed, eagerly taking the next sip. “You’re the best! What’s in it? And you’ve got that right”, she nodded with another smile. “I’m an absolute riddle addict. A day isn’t complete with a good riddle to solve. Vincent paused in his laughter when he heard what the girl said about them not introducing themselves yet. "Oh, right, right," he said, shaking his head,"Sorry. Eirian, was it? That's a pretty unique name, don't hear that one too much around here. I'm Vincent." He extended his hand for her to shake.

He nodded at her words. "Well, I'm glad to hear you're not overwhelmed," he said with a shrug. Vincent had listened to several students that had come in and were completely bogged down with homework, no free time whatsoever. He felt so bad for them because the majority of them had been pressured into taking more classes than they could handle by their parents or even the teachers. There were the few, though, that had put the pressure on themselves, those that knew exactly what they wanted to do as a career. "I pretty much just took the basics when I was in school," he said, going over to the sink just by the bar and began rinsing dishes.

"Well, thanks," he said, grinning at her. "I dunno, though, I don't get it, either. They're a lot alike, but I dunno, I just find bar tending a bit easier." He shrugged and continued washing the few dishes that had been left in the sink.

He curtly shook his head, grinned and said,"Don't mention it." Vincent wasn't incredibly loose with giving away the free things, but he did it every once in awhile. Usually when someone messed up an order or spilled something, but occasionally, he gave away free things just because he felt like it. Like today, for instance. "You like that?" he asked, wiping his hands dry on a clean towel. He flipped the clean towel onto the bar and began wiping it down again. "Let's see...I put in some orange juice, grenadine, a little lemon juice and-"

Vincent was cut short when two men wandered over to the bar, one on each side of Eirian. "Fellas, there's plenty of room on that end of the bar. No need to crowd the lady," he said, pointing his thumb in the direction of the end of the bar.

So there was absolutely no reason for him to feel sorry or awkward about it. His comment about her rare name though made her smile the tiniest bit. It was certainly not the first time she had been told that, but since she liked her name, she rather took it as a compliment – and it most likely had been meant as such, coming from him, anyway. “It’s Welsh”, she readily explained. “I come from a small village by the Welsh Coast. And my second name is even mor uncommon for English ears, because my mother hails from Hawaii. It’s nice to meet you, Vicent”, she finished, giving his hand a short and firm shake. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around here often, though. Are you new or do you usually take different shifts?” Eirian had always found it illogical of people to take more classes than they were able to handle. In the end, it only made your grades go down in ALL of them, since you couldn’t focus fully on anything. She knew of course that some people had more difficulties with studying than Eirian had, but that was exactly her point: you should never take more on your plate than you could actually eat, or so to say. Whatever reasons there might be for doing this, overestimation of one’s own abilities, pressure from parents… it simply wasn’t a good thing to do. If you had high ambitions… well then you should be ready to meet the requirements for them. “As long as you had fun doing what you did?” Eirian remarked, cocking her head. “More isn’t always better. I know people with very few subjects to take, but they excel at these and have a firm plan what to do with their life later.” Bartending would certainly be something Eirian liked better than Potions any day. It contained the interesting part of mixing ingredients in such accurate doses so it was transformed into something completely else. It was a subtle kind of power… but most of the Potions needed to be heated to make them work, not like drinks, and the most obvious wizarding power to turn to was fire of course. That was why Potions had never been the thing for Eirian. Getting near a fire for a few split seconds was trying… practically standing next to it for hours until the potion was ready was well-nigh impossible. Orange-juice and grenadine… that reminded her of a drink called Tequila Sunrise, obviously without Tequila for her. But then there was lemon juice… she took another sip to test her gustative nerves and detect what other juices he might have put in there. “It’s delicious! Just what one needs to get the energy going!” She had wanted to say more, but just then she felt movement to both her sides and suddenly found herself wedged between to young men. A second later a rather offensive smell of sweat, smoke and alcohol passed by her nostrils, and she wrinkled her nose subconsciously. Ugh… whoever these guys were, had they never heard of the concept of washing?! “I want a Fire Whiskey!” one of them demanded in a voice that was just slightly too loud. And the other one just grinned at Vincent and then turned to Eirian. “But then, this is a free country still, mate. I can sit wherever the hell I want! And I wanna sit right ‘ere. Next to that lil’ lady. You don’t mind, do ya, darlin’?” Ugh… ‘darling’… she was certainly not his darling! “Well, looking at it reasonably”, she started, taking a deep breath – and regretting instantly after! – “I can’t tell you where to sit. "Oh, wow!" he said grinning when he heard where Eirian was from. Vincent had to admit that he was a bit jealous. When he thought of Hawaii, he could help but think of one Muggle singer, Elvis Presley. This was something that he and his dad had in common once upon a time. The reason why they both started playing guitar. "Have you actually been to Hawaii?" he asked, biting his lip. He'd always wanted to go either there or Graceland, but unfortunately, he lacked the funds.

He laughed and nodded his head when he heard her next question. Man, she certainly was in the right house. "Yeah, it's a little bit of both. I didn't get hired too long ago, but I usually take the night shifts. Rosmerta needed a little help with controlling the more obnoxious drunks, I guess," he said with a shrug. Rosmerta knew what she was doing, though. Being an ex-hit wizard, he really knew how to take care of people that were breaking the rules.

"Yeah, I guess I did have fun," he said, nodding his head. There were some pretty terrible times in his Hogwarts years, but there were some pretty good ones, too, to even it out. "I was all about the defense class. That had to be my favorite. You got a favorite course this year-oh, hold on." He patted the counter and wandered over to another customer that had walked up to the bar. A butterbeer? Nice and simple. He quickly prepared the drink and handed it to the customer.

After returning to his place behind the bar by Eden, he narrowed his eyes at the two men that were now surrounding the Ravenclaw. He could smell the alcohol already on them. "I think you've had enough," he said, crossing his arms. Vincent couldn't help but grin a little bit when Eirian called him the boss. That's right. He was in charge here. "Look, you're obviously making her uncomfortable. Just move down the bar and I'll fix you up," he said, motioning again to the other side of the bar, away from Eirian.

"Nah, I like it here."

"Alright, that's it," he said, coming out from behind the bar and grabbing both of them by the collars and pulling them away from Eirian. "You guys need to get out."

Unfortunately, the two men were just drunk enough to do unruly things, but not too drunk that they weren't in control of themselves physically. At this, they both spun around, punching Vincent in the face, causing him to go flying into the nearest table.

It wasn’t always right to judge people by first impression after all, and many guys she had known didn’t look as strong as they were. Meical for example didn’t look like anything, and yet he could easily lift a patient out of bed. It was all about knowing how to use the strength you got in the right way. And then, it wasn’t always about brawn either. Maybe Vincent was good with defense spells? Or maybe he also knew just what to say to de-escalate a situation? She didn’t hope she would ever have to see it in action of course, but it certainly would interest her just what he was capable of. “Yeah”, she mused. “I can’t really see Madame Rosmerta dealing too well with them either. She’s more the type to make some of the male students swoon.” It always irritated and amused Eirian at the same time to watch it happening. She had no idea how old the owner of the Three Broomsticks really was, but in any case way too old for the students! Damn right they were making her uncomfortable! It was not so much a logical sentiment, rather an indistinctive feeling of danger that suddenly seemed to load the air with undenyable tension. Eirian didn’t know well to deal with these kinds of situations, so she didn’t even have something smart to say yet. She actually feared every word she said would draw their attention closer to her, and she was glad beyond belief that Vincent returned and stood up for her. Before she could think of something to retort, Vincent was already being the gentleman, or rather, the rough gentleman, doing just what he had told her about before. But the two drunks didn’t want to take it. Eirian heard several gasps mirroring her own as they suddenly turned to punch the barkeeper smack into the face. The pub was suddenly abuzz with whispers and then a tense silence followed. No one dared to move – except Eirian. Grabbing her wand tightly but still lettign her arm dangle loosely at her side, she stepped forward, between the rogues and Vincent, holding up her free hand in a gesture of both imploring and assumed authority. “There is seriously no need for this, guys”, she spoke with a firm voice. Sadly, when Eirian thought she was right, she didn’t mind danger, simply not believing her logic would not be thoroughly convincing any sane being. “You were acting rude, so he showed you the door. The logical thing to do would be accept it and get sober before wanting another drink. You’re being childish, and extremely impolite. Now, how about you act like adults and apologize to him?” For a moment they just looked at her, dumbfounded. Then one of them started to laugh, a laugh that somehow made a shiver run down Eirian's spine. "Seriously... are you for real?!" he slurred. "Did you escape from St. Mungo's??" The other meanwhile approached on Vincent, now drawing his wand while his other hand was still balled into a fist. Vincent leaned on the counter and leaned in a bit, interested in what Eirian had to say about Hawaii. He couldn't help but laugh when he heard what she said about having to hide her magic while she was there. He had to do that for the first few years he was at Hogwarts. Later, he started living with Tobias during the summers, who was a wizard, so Vincent didn't have to worry about that. "I've always wanted to go," he said, shaking his head,"It seems just like-well-paradise."

He nodded. "Yeah, if that ever happens during her shift, she tends to just hide out in one of the back rooms until the whole thing stops," he said, grinning. He remembered one time, he had come in early to his night shift. There were at least two pairs of older students fighting in the pub and Vincent had found Rosmerta in the stock room. Not exactly the best way of dealing with the situation.

Vincent groaned and carefully touched his face as he sat up. However, to his surprise, Eirian pulled out her wand and stepped between Vincent and the two attackers. He stifled a grin when the young Ravenclaw began scolding the two men for their actions, plus the look of confusion on their faces was pretty hilarious.

He was just about to lug himself to his feet when one of the men lunged forward, grabbed Vincent's shirt collar and shoved a wand in his face. Vincent winced slightly, preparing for either a punch or a spell to the face, but the man seemed to be genuinely waiting for an answer. He took this chance to kick out at the man, causing him to fall backwards in surprise. Vincent leaped to his feet and pulled out his wand.

"Oh, a feisty one, huh?" said the man that had been preparing to attack Vincent.

The other one that had been speaking to Eirian began moving towards her, but Vincent quickly moved between them. "Look, I didn't want to get rough, but I will if you don't leave quietly. Now," he said, holding his wand out and motioning towards the door.

The two men merely laughed at Vincent's words and exchanged glances with each other. One of them started to lunge forward, but Vincent cast a spell, forcing the man backwards. He ran forward to continue attacking the man (oblivious to what was happening behind him), while the other one grabbed Eirian.

She would have to tell that to her mother, no doubt she would love it. It was a neverending fond joke between her parents that Iolana would say she had willingly left paradise behind, to join her poor Gwillym in the gloomy, rainy hell, and he would counter that she probably had deserved nothing less, falling from paradise to spend eternity with him in Wales’ hell. Not that Eirian’s mother didn’t like it here though, she had repeatedly assured her daughter thus, back in the days when Eirian had still been little and not yet able to tell a joke from serious words. For a while, she had been really afraid of her mother leaving and had felt extremely stupid afterwards when she was told it all had been in good humor. “Whenever the opportunity arises you should go!” she affirmed, nodding. “It comes pretty close to what you think of paradise, especially when you need some time out after a stressful time.” Not that she herself had ever felt too stressed, but she had overheard her father saying it. Eirian couldn’t remember ever having witnessed a fight in the Three Broomsticks since she was allowed to go to Hogwarts, Usually the Hogs Head was the place for such things and that was why usually students avoided it. She had never seen these two dirty punks in here before either, and she could have lived without it. But now she was not only witnessing a fight, she was IN it. Such a shocking and uncomfortable situation, really, since Eirian had an inkling logic wouldn’t get her far here. They surely didn’t seem inclined to listen – on the contrary! "Look, I didn't want to get rough, but I will if you don't leave quietly. Now," Vincent said, but it only seemed to make them angrier. Suddenly, Eirian felt herself being grabbed by the neck and by one arm rather forcefully, and she cried out in surprise and pain. “Let me GO! You have no right grabbing me like that!” “Hmm… and what if I don’t care, sweetheart”, he whispered and gave a throaty laugh. “Whatcha gonna to about it, hm? Lecture me?! Telling me how ‘illogical I’m being?!” He shook her once to make his point clear,but while he did so, Eirian’s confused mind noticed something important. He was holding her hard by the neck and by the right arm… but it was her left hand holding the wand, since she was left-handed… slowly, to not divert his attention, Eirian began to turn the wand in her hand, so it was pointing at the man standing so close behind her. Maybe it would work, maybe it wouldn’t. For now she could only prepare. "Yeah, well, that's easier said than done," he said with a small laugh. Vincent wasn't exactly swimming in the cash it would take to be able to pay for a trip to Hawaii. As much as he would love to go, he did not see it happening any time soon, unless maybe Madam Rosmerta finally gave him a raise. before taking the towel off of his shoulder once again and continuing to wipe down the bar top. This time, though, he actually had something to clean up. A man on the far end of the bar had spilled his entire glass of fire whiskey.

"Hold on, sorry, I'll be right back," he said, patting the bar and wandering over to where the man that had spilled his drink was sitting. "Alright, I think you've had enough," he said, pulling the now empty glass just out of reach of the drunken man. He was so close to passing out that he barely grunted in response as his head hit the bar. Laughing and rolling his eyes, he lifted up the man's head, so he could wipe up the extra fire whiskey that was about to go off the edge of the bar and onto the floor. When he was satisfied with the cleanliness of the bar, he moved back to where Eirian was sitting.

"Yeah, I guess that's true," he said with a shrug. It just irked him a little bit. After all, what did she expect when owning a pub? Perfectly well-behaved customers 100% of the time?

Before he knew what was happening, Vincent was hit straight with the disarming spell and his wand shot out of his hand. Immediately afterward, the attacking man shot another spell at him, causing him to be flung backwards, crashing into a shelf of potted plants on the wall right by the door. Groaning, Vincent grabbed a chair and helped himself to his feet.

The man that had attacked him seemed to have forgotten about Vincent and went to assist his friend with Eirian. Vincent shook his head, as it had gotten somewhat fuzzy, and he quickly moved to Eirian's aid. He grabbed them by their collars and pulled them off of the girl once again.

"Oh? Is that all you can do big guy?"

"Yeah, your wand is gone," said one man, wiggling Vincent's wand tauntingly,"What're you gonna do?"
