RUFUS E. L. SCRIMGEOUR
The new illustrious Minister of Magic after years as Head of the Auror Office he has gained quite the reputation for brutal efficiency. He is a man deeply bound by his sense of duty. Every decision is made with the aim of furthering wizarding society, removing the threats that plague it and winning this war as quickly as possible. In this goal there is nothing, absolutely nothing he won’t do to see it happen, even if it means sacrifices to ensure the greater good. Severe, staunch and humourless Rufus is a man of action. He praises honesty above all else, this combined with his cantankerous nature and suspicion of people often makes him come across as rude. And it’s really not worthy of his time to change that opinion. He remains ever an auror at heart and refuses to be made into a desk jockey, gladly ‘taking to the field’ and getting his own hands dirty.
To The Friends
Despite his grumpy and callous image Rufus has many qualities that would make him an extremely loyal and reliable friend. He has difficulty in trusting people (wouldn’t you if you’d fought dark wizards your whole life?) but he would gladly give his life if it meant saving one innocent person. He harbours a secret affection for the Auror’s many of which he would have had a hand in training and definitely would have supervised in missions, though this affection has by no means made him soft on them, quite the opposite he eyes many of them with the utmost suspicion because of their closeness to Dumbledore and is constantly on the look out even now he’s been ‘promoted’ for infiltrators in what he still deems as his office.
To The Enemies
There will be many and many of these. Death Eaters and dark magic users are a given. He alongside Alastor Moody are responsible for a vast amount of the occupied cells in Azkaban. After the breakout Rufus will happily kill on sight. Though he’ll also make plenty of enemies on the other side. He will constantly be working to expose and destroy the Order of the Phoenix (vigilantes are still criminals). His ruthless line of action and willingness to make the ‘necessary sacrifices’ (it’s not all puppies and roses people, someone has to do more then put their faith in a 16 year old boy) will certainly set him off from many of the Order and it’s supporters.
To The Lovers
I don’t think I’m going to get very far on this one – but just in case, I think Rufus needs a little romance in his last years. Something unrequited and one sided or fabulously tragic. There is a heart buried beneath the ice somewhere and he has a great thundercat thing going on.
To The Others
Work colleagues, Aurors, acquaintances, old school friends. The face of the Minister floods the newspapers you’d have to live under a rock to not know who he is (something he really, really hates).
