LIKES:
II. THE QUIBBLER - It’s her father’s magazine and rival to the Daily Prophet. He’s been writing supporting articles for Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore despite pressures to write otherwise. Luna likes the Quibbler, not just because her father owns it but because it embraces the strange and usual things in life. It’s something she’s intensely proud of and knows it tells the truth rather than lies. The truth is very important. The Quibbler proved essential to spreading the truth about the Wizarding War. She believes the Quibbler might be able to provide a small glimmer of hope in these dark times with its blatant truths. She is proud of what she believes in and no one, not one person is going to make her feel ashamed or change her mind through pressure. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
III. HARRY POTTER- He’s not like other wizards. He’s kind and generous and caring and he’s never once called her Loony. While Luna doesn’t mind some people calling her loony because she realises not everyone intends it to be mean – but everyone calls her that so it’s a natural reaction to do so, that does not mean she doesn’t recognise it as the insult it’s intended to be. Harry has not once insulted her. In fact he’s listened to her and considered what she’s had to say. He’s a reluctant hero but the reluctant hero’s are the best. Luna was convinced early on he would do just fine in life and face Voldemort with dignity. Harry hasn’t let her down once, and she doesn't believe he's going to. Luna considers Harry to be a close friend and will be there for him in whatever he needs – even if it is just a distraction so he can slip away from a crowd.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
IV.HERMIONE GRANGER - Although Hermione has called her loony, she has since ceased to do so. She’s smart and driven and has become someone Luna would like to call a friend. She stands up for herself and others who are weaker than she is. She’s strong and Luna admires her immensely. Loyalty is a rare thing in the world and Hermione is loyal. Loyalty is a commodity Luna values high and believes it inspires faith, companionship and honour. With her kind heart and gentle soul but fierce will in the face of oppression Luna feels Hermione will go far in life. In fact, she’s hoping so. With an attitude like hers perhaps Hermione can do the world some good and maybe help save it one day...again.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
V. NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM - Neville Longbottom has been very nice to Luna. He’s a bit shy and hasn’t said a mean word to her. Luna can tell he’s got more substance than even he knows and always believed he would find the strength he needed when the time came. Luna, ever since meeting him, showed him the support she believed he needed to have the confidence to believe in himself. He’s braver than he realises and Luna likes watching him grow as a person. There’s something very gentle and soft about Neville which attracts Luna to him. There proved to be a fire in there last year which made Luna very proud about. .[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VI. GINEVRA WEASLEY - Ginny was the first person to talk to her properly without any proper need to. People who talk to her usually want something or need something or are trying to bully her. Ginny stood up for her when a Slytherin tried to bully her and Luna’s been faithfully friendly and happy to see Ginny ever since. Luna likes Ginny’s gumption and feistiness. She’s a nice girl who helped teach Luna what a friend should be. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VII. GILDEROY LOCKHEART - Gilderoy Lockheart was quite the character. Although convinced he didn’t know much about Defence Against the Dark Arts, especially when he couldn’t discuss his books when a question was asked about them, Luna thought Professor Lockheart was quite an interesting character. Class had always been unusual and interesting when he was teaching and Luna is especially interested in the unusual and interesting. She was disappointed and sorry to hear he turned out to be a complete coward and tried to obliviate Ronald. She didn’t really leave with many useful lessons other than to be suspicious of those who always talk about themselves..[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VIII. PROFESSOR LUPIN - Luna never even batted an eye upon discovering he was a werewolf. Luna never considered it to be a problem for a second. It only made him more interesting to Luna. Actually, she had pretty much suspected he was a werewolf when Professor Snape set the werewolf essay and was distinctly firm in her belief by the time Christmas came around. Professor Lupin was the best DADA professor she ever had and was by far the kindest. Lupin was always kind to her and patient with everyone. He came across as gentle and kind and possessed a soft but brave heart. He took Snape’s barbs and snipes with the ultimate grace and Luna admired him for that. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
IX. DUMBLEDORE’S ARMY - The Defence group established because they wanted to learn defence but weren’t allowed to was like having friends. People talked to her without staring or sniggering or making little comments. Everyone was interested in how everyone else was fairing and were very supportive. Luna had never experienced such a vibe and atmosphere before. It was very nice. Luna liked it immensely. So much so she told Harry it was like having friends, though somewhere inside she knew they probably didn’t consider her a friend and that made her sad. Harry was a great defence teacher and was very patient. All of them did so well under his tutelage. She was glad she joined because she felt able to assist Harry in the horror of the Department of Mysteries. She felt useful. She felt like she was part of something important. More importantly she was helping a friend and that was priceless.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
X. FAWKES- All Phoenixes are beautiful especially Fawkes. Luna never dared touch the bird because she considered him far too majestic and beautiful for such a thing. Luna was pretty sure she worshipped Phoenixes in a past life. Phoenixes are such intelligent creatures and Luna is humbled to know any. No one knows how Professor Dumbledore managed to charm Fawkes into being his companion – Phoenixes pick who they wish to go with, if they want to stand by a human at all. Where he is now she doesn’t know. She hasn’t seen him since Dumbledore died.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XI. HAVING FRIENDS - Luna, has, unfortunately, managed to scare off most potential friends by just being her. No one seems to have the stomach for the weird and unusual, usually mocking it and turning away laughing. This means Luna doesn’t really know what it’s like to have friends herself. She has a sense of what friends are supposed to do and how they are supposed to be. She would like to call Ginny, Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville friends. They are very nice people and Luna is very loyal to them all. She’ll be there whenever they need help. In fact she insists upon it. Luna likes being there for her friends and helping them: it’s a very nice feeling.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XII. DEFENCE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS - Luna likes this subject. Harry has helped her hone her skills and become even better at it. It’s a very practical subject and Luna finds it very useful to know how to defend herself. Everyone should be forced to take it as a NEWT because darkness comes in many guises and although it wanes it always returns. Before Voldemort there was Grindelwald and now after Voldemort there’s political upheaval that looks as though it’s about to get real ugly. People should not be lax when it comes to their own safety. Luna has proven fantastic at duelling, coming out of the battle of the Department of Mysteries practically unscathed while everyone else, barring Harry, was injured in some way, and suffering no injury during the Final Battle.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XIII. READING UPSIDE DOWN - It’s a useful skill. Also Luna’s got a slight nosy streak which she can hide by reading what people are reading or writing upside down. She feels it’s good for exercising her brain. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XIV. CLOUDS - They are nice and take many wonderful shapes. Luna finds the shapes of clouds to be fascinating and can be found, on a nice day, staring into the sky from a standing, seated or horizontal position. They are pretty and Luna wishes she could touch them. It’s amazing to see them change into other shapes and eventually vanish into nothing. Other people should appreciate clouds more.
[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XV. RAIN- Rain is very refreshing and Luna likes to feel it on her skin. It’s not unusual to see her not wearing a jacket that is substantial enough to properly protect her from the rain. She doesn’t mind. She doesn’t feel the cold the way other people do and she adapts to temperature changes fairly quickly.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XVI. RAINBOWS - They are very pretty to look at. Luna likes all the colours melding together and is fascinated by the fact you can only see it from the one side. She has looked for the pot of gold at the end and now resists the urge to do so now that she’s at school. It hadn’t stopped her when she was eleven but the forest is forbidden and she wouldn’t like to get lost in there.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XVII. EARRINGS - Luna likes to wear unconventional earrings because they are different and fun and she doesn’t want to blend in with everyone else. She doesn’t understand why she would want to be like everyone else. Luna doesn’t want to be different though, she just wants to be Luna.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XVIII. NECKLACES - The reason is the same as above. Luna particularly likes bottle caps because they are coloured, very light and again, unusual.
.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XVIV. THESTRALS - Thestrals are very kind and gentle creatures that make Luna feel very welcome. They are beautiful and fascinating creatures that Luna likes to spend time with, especially the young. She feels a kindred spirit kind of thing with those outcast creatures. No one understands them and no one takes the time too. She feels it is a privilege she is able to spend any time at all with them and that it is wonderful Hagrid takes the time to care for them. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XX. HELPING FRIENDS Nothing makes Luna feel better than knowing she’s helped someone out of a jam. She likes to see people happy and healthy and able to continue to do what you’re doing. It’s a pleasurable feeling that Luna would like to get used to. She doesn’t have many friends and people who are kind to her always gain her favour. Luna is a naturally kind person and wants to do right by others by helping them in any way she can especially if they can’t see they need that help. Luna has a way of doing things without imposing on other’s independence.
[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XXI.LADY HELENA - Luna has never, nor ever felt the inclination to call her The Grey Lady, finding the name to be disrespectful for someone who is legendary and practically wizarding royalty. Helena is a kind, sorrowful and shy young/old ghost who accepted Luna’s company with some reluctance and difficulty. She proves to be quite endearing and is sympathetic towards Luna. Whenever Luna feels very sad she goes to see Lady Helena because they share a strange kind of pain and can comfort each other. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XXII. DIRIGIBLE PLUMS- They remind her of her mother. Her mother had once experimented with those plums and so they remind her of the time she made them explode all over herself and Luna. They had laughed so hard their stomachs cramped for three hours. The Plums now line the outside of her house so they remind her of home too.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XXIII. KITES - Luna likes flying kites. She used to do it with her parents all the time. They now fly permanently outside her home whether there is wind or not. They are fun and light-hearted and another honour for her mother. They remind Luna of freedom and being free and of a time when there was nothing wrong in the world. Her mother was a free spirit tethered to this world by her father and herself – what better way to represent her than by kites?
[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XXIV. WALKING IN HER BARE FEET - The hot slabs beneath her feet, or damp grass between her toes is a pleasant feeling. Also, people find it amusing to keep stealing her shoes so she makes do without. She rather likes it – feet are rather sensitive things.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XXV.SKIPPING - it’s a much better and faster way of travelling. You just move faster and freer than everyone else and people instinctively make room for you to move forwards in a natural sense of self preservation, she supposes. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XXVI. BEING INVITED TO THINGS - No one invites Luna to anything but if they did, she would be very happy they thought of her. It would make her feel wanted and a bit special, even if she’s the last port of call because you still thought enough of her to ask. Luna is always surprised when she’s asked to do things, help out or go onto a social occasion. She supposes she might never not be surprised by it. One day perhaps it will become normal for others to invite her out and she will ask them to do things with her too. She wonders if her close friendships with Ginny and Neville will last without the adversity gluing them together – she sincerely hopes that it does.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XXVII. BEING INCLUDED- The defence group had been the best time of Luna’s life because she was included with other students who wanted her to do well, just as she wanted them to do well too. There is no feeling warmer than knowing your are included in a group or something especially if it is doing something important. For a while Luna was part of something bigger and continues to hope she’ll have that feeling again. [/ul]
DISLIKES:
II. PEOPLE TAKING HER SHOES - Luna doesn’t mind not having her shoes but it’s usually when she needs them that they go walkies. Two years ago they took her shoes in the middle of winter and her feet had been unusually cold. It had been very uncomfortable. It’s not so bad, walking without shoes – she does rather like it but that’s hardly the point. Shoes are a fundamental, basic part of life and no one in anywhere should have to go without them. They are part of the basic equipment for a person – underwear, tops, trousers, shoes. When one had to clothe and feed a person they always made sure their feet were warm and dry because not doing so not only caused pain through chill blains and the like, but could summon sickness. But mostly, Luna can’t say she cares for walking in mud. It always seems to manage to get up to her knees.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
III. ELITISM- Everyone in life should be included. Ravenclaws can be very elitist, as can Slytherins and Luna really hates that. She won’t say anything about it though, she’ll just mention that such and such should be included too, and why don’t they ask that girl standing in the corner? If they don’t Luna will go over and invite said person in. Usually it’s her that looks on from the outside but that doesn’t stop her trying to get others involved even if she isn’t in the circle herself. Elitism can be nasty and it always hurts someone. It maks those in the elite feel powerful nd special which in itself is not a problem but it’s not a positive energy hanging around it but a negative one. It boosts only a few and puts the rest down. Basically Luna views it as institutionalised bullying.
.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
IV. PEOPLE CALLING HER LOONY - Loony is not a nice name. It’s demeaning and insulting and Luna knows she should be mad about it but it’s such a small thing she lets people say it. It’s not her problem, is it? Most people say it without realising either. Luna has no idea who started it and nor does she care. It’s just a name. There were worse things to be called than Loony. And if she did make a thing of it, Luna knows the name calling would only grow worse. It would no longer be a small game they play with themselves but a challenge to think up new and better names than ‘loony’. So Luna wisely chooses to say nothing, hoping that if she ignores it enough people will get bored and stop calling her it, or at the very least say it only out of habit rather than mean anything by it..[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
V. PEEVES - Oh he’s a pest. He’s always calling her Loony when she’s around he says it really loudly too. Apparently he liked to call professor Lupin ‘Loony loopy Lupin’ which made her feel slightly better. Only, it prompted him to start calling her Loony Loopy Luna too...[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VI. DISRESPECTING GHOSTS - The ghosts were real live people once with entire lives of their own. Their histories can be intricate and complicated. Even now they still have a full set of emotions and memories. They are people in every sense of the word and deserve respect, politeness and courteousness. They can be a great source of knowledge and Luna is personally friends with Lady Helena, whom she often visits. Luna’s even had a full conversation about the merits of having head and not having a head with Sir Nicholas. Maybe one day she’ll be able to convince him that it’s better to have a head.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VII. PUMPKIN PIES - They make her feel sick. Pumpkin juice is fine, but there’s something about pumpkin pies that makes her stomach turn. Halloween can be a torture. Pumpkin pies are very popular. Any other kind of pie will suit her wonderfully thank you.
[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VIII. DAILY PROPHET - The daily prophet is full of propaganda and lies. They told vile lies about Harry Potter who is the nicest wizard she has ever met. But even before she had ever said hello to him, Luna and her father had regarded the vile the Prophet was saying as lies. They had unfounded bits of information that her father had researched and proven to be untrue. Rita Skeeter in particular was always writing something nasty about Harry (and indeed many others) that makes Luna think only of her as nasty (and unfortunately talented). Luna doesn’t like it when people tell nasty lies about others, especially when it perverts the course of justice or detracts from the real issue..[dohtml]
[/dohtml
IX. DETENTION- The one and only time she had to suffer detention was when Umbridge was in power of everything. Luna can’t remember how many lines they had to do with those evil quills that cut into their hands as they wrote with their own blood. It was one of the worse things Luna has had to go through and not an experience she wants to repeat. Yet Luna considers the punishment worth it and would do it again if she had to. A blood quill is hardly the crutiatus curse..[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
X. THE INQUISITORIAL SQUAD - Slytherins. As per. They spoiled everything. They were high and mighty and thought they were better than everyone else and made breaking the rules harder![dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XI. NOT LEARNING PRACTICAL MAGIC - Practical magic is the only proper way to learn. Theory is good and it is essential in learning but knowing the theory does not mean you know how to do it in practice. Luna had risen up against both Umbridge’s and Snape’s regime to learn and teach others how to defend themselves in the brewing war. Magic is a tool which should be studied and also learned practically..[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XII.UMBRIDGE - Umbridge was not someone who commanded respect from Luna, which is a rare thing indeed. Luna is naturally a respectful and polite young woman but Umbridge rubbed Luna the wrong way the second she interrupted Professor Dumbledore. Fred and George Weasley had expressed everyone’s sentiments when they muttered ‘not likely’ during her speech. It said a lot that they weren’t chastised by Dumbledore. Many had been bamboozled by Umbridge but the Ravenclaws had understood what she was saying in that muddle fuddle. She was a nasty nasty witch who represented everything that was wrong with the world. Life, however, isn’t fair, so Luna never kicked up a fuss like everyone else did. Although no longer in the picture, Luna dislikes her enough to continue to hold that with her..[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XIII. PEOPLE NOT BEING NICE TO HER FRIENDS- Luna has no formally named friends but she considered several people to be just that. Luna’s always there to comfort a friend who’s lost or having a hard time from others. Luna’s not one to get involved in other’s affairs without being invited however, that being said, she does not take a ‘well you didn’t help me’ attitude. Luna won’t step in and stop someone from being bullied if it’s verbal. Usually she’s in her own little world anyway and may not notice..[dohtml]
[/dohtml
XIV. ICE CREAM - she’s just not that fond of it. It makes her teeth hurt and she finds it difficult to eat. It’s freezed milk, basically and she’s not fond of milk either.
[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XV. LILIES- she’s just not that fond of it. It makes her teeth hurt and she finds it difficult to eat. It’s frozen milk, basically and she’s not fond of milk either. .[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XVI. BEING STUCK INDOORS - Luna likes being outdoors because it’s so freeing and wonderful. There’s so much space, so many sounds and sights and smells in the great outdoors. Inside it can get awfully cramped and dank and dark. She likes feeling the wind on her skin, the rain soak through her shirt and the sun to sink into her flesh. Also natural light is the best thing to see with. That being said, Luna does like small dark places and has been known to sit under tables. However since Malfoy Manor she has spent more time than she ever has outdoors in all kinds of weather. Dark places aren’t so appealing anymore. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XVII. HIGH HEELS - She just falls over. She can’t walk in them and they make her feet hurt. She can admit they look good on others but she just looks weird in heels. Plus they ruin the skipping. .[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XVIII. VOLDEMORT- Does it really need saying? He threatened more than just one way of life and it disrupted everything. People were frightened to go to Hogwarts because of him. People lost their jobs, their loved ones and their own lives to his ‘cause’. There were other ways to promote blood purity that didn’t involve tyranny. Other than the fact his parents probably didn’t call him Voldemort – though it is actually quite hard to tell with magical families (her father is called Xenophilius) - Luna didn’t know much about him. He wanted to kill Harry and that’s enough to get on her bad side (not that it looks any different from her good side[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
XIX. PREJUDICE - more people in the world are prejudice than they think they are and Luna just doesn’t like it. Everyone – males, females, children, goblins, house elves, trolls, etc should all have equal rights. The only ‘non-human’ who’s regarded as acceptable are Veelas because males like to look at them. Centaurs are utterly fascinating creatures with their own histories and personalities and they are not at all ‘beastly’. Luna feels very privileged to have met Firenze, a centaur who’s relationship with Hagrid is very good. More often than not, people who assume things are wrong because they do not understand them. Luna wishes they would take a little bit of time to get to know something and their whole world will be accentuated [/ul]
STRENGNTHS:
[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
II. ACCEPTING - Luna accepts anything life throws at her. She’s not affected as much as others by what she sees or has to go through. She doesn’t expect anything in life to be handed to her – not even niceness from others, as so often the case is with Luna, they are mean about her and laugh behind her back. She accepts that her mother is dead but not that she will never see her again. She accepts the world is a dark place and she must fight to survive. She accepts that people find her strange and unusual and so react in a way that is negative towards her rather than positive. She very much embraces the Serenity Prayer, often coming across as quite serene herself. Luna is not one to kick and scream that life isn’t fair, to cross her arms and pout whilst expecting someone to come and comfort her. Luna moves on because she can’t change the past, but she can change what happens next. Sometimes changing what happens next is the only thing you can do and it is the only thing that can keep you going.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
III. RESILIENT- Luna’s a very strong young woman – mentally and emotionally. She allows the bullying in Hogwarts to wash over her, never bothered that people steal her belongings and believes with a resounding faith they will find their way back to her (because they usually do). Her resilience allows her to remain calm and level-headed in even the most dangerous of situations. At DoM Luna had an even emotional field throughout the entire events, even though most of the people she was with were sustaining injuries in some way and the Death Eaters were quickly gaining the upper hand. . She handles stress very well and doesn’t allow pressures to affect her, in fact, it is quite often she appears as though she hasn’t noticed the situation is in fact stressful. She does not bow to peer pressure and remains firm and true to herself. Luna doesn’t have to pick herself up when she falls down because she rarely falls in the first place..[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
b]IV.[/b] MAGICALLY POWERFUL - Luna is magically powerful – it is something that will only grow over time. This means she can perform magic that should be unavailable to her until she is at least a working woman. At the age of fifteen Luna was able to produce a Corporeal Patronus and all it took was a little patience and a good teacher. Luna found it to not be as nearly as difficult as the teachers and books claimed it to be. When she sets her mind to it, she’ll be able to perform non-verbal spells with ease.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
V. LOYAL - Luna is a very loyal young woman. She is extremely loyal to her friends and family. She’ll help them when they need help no matter what the circumstances are. If they need someone to listen and they start talking, she’ll listen. If they need advice back, she’ll provide it. If they need her to fight Death Eaters she’ll do that too. She’ll even leave the room if that’s what they want. Luna will not believe anything about her friends that come from other people – she has to see it for herself, and even then, she might not believe it.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
b]VI.[/b] NON-JUDGEMENTAL - Luna doesn’t make judgements upon the past actions of others, what their background is or what they look like. Luna has the uncanny ability to see people’s hearts even when they try to hide them, so she doesn’t have to take things like clothing and magical power into account. Neville Longbottom comes across as a bit of a coward but Luna knew all he needed was a bit of support before he could fly. During the year while Harry was off hunting Horcruxes Neville really grew into himself and grew as a person. Luna doesn’t like gossip for is she interested in it so she ignores the intended emotional impact rumours have and focuses on the facts. Is Harry Potter a mad man? No? Moving on. A rumour like that doesn’t make her judge anyone, but it does make her think that the people who made it probably aren’t very nice. .[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VII. QUICK THINKING- Calm, cool and sensible in a jam Luna is quick thinking under pressure. While everyone else was getting worked up about how to get to the Ministry she was quietly thinking about possibilities and came up with one solution: Thestrals. She’s useful to have around because she remains unaffected by the stress of others and keeps her head at all times. Her ideas come to here quietly without a burst of emotion and realisation. Highly logical and full of common sense, Luna is full of thought when need be...or isn’t thinking at all.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
b]VIII.[/b] COMMON SENSE- It can be unusual for someone with a lot of intelligence to have a lot of common sense. Luna knows that a lot of the smartest people in the world don’t really have an ounce of the stuff. Luna’s lucky that she does. Her open mindedness allows her to see what everyone else misses and so she can think of what other people tend to forget to think of too. She thinks inside and outside of the box. Considering every alternative is essential.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
X. INTELLIGENT - Luna is a smart girl with a good memory. She soaks up information like a sponge and always has. Intelligence allows Luna to get good grades and a potentially a good job but it also allows her to understand life lessons, puzzles and tricky exam questions. Luna learns quickly and adapts every situation quickly too. She understands things with ease which others do not. She has never had a problem with homework and gets some of the highest grades in her year. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
b]XI.[/b] RELIABLE - Luna is a very reliable young girl. She’s there for you even if you don’t realise you need her. She’s extremely consistent in manner and faith. If you ask Luna for help you’re pretty much guaranteed to get it – and even when you don’t she can easily recognise when you need it. When Luna says she’ll do something she’ll do it. You can depend on Luna to be consistent and firm. If Luna says she’ll help you with something she’ll help you all the way. She doesn’t drop out half way through just because things are getting difficult. She tends to stick to the background is more of a supporting structure than a main driving force but will step up if and when she has to [/ul]
WEAKNESS:
II. OUTSPOKEN - Luna has never tried to hide her oddness, nor has to attempted to fit in. Her outspokenness is not in the form of spouting opinions left right and centre but sticking the strange ones she has and producing them in conversation. Not a lot of people want to hear about ‘Nargles’, what they are and what they do but Luna believes with the utmost conviction that they do exist and do clog up your brain – and she will tell people. She will not say something because another person doesn’t like it or believe in it. Her mother always said it was their issue and her father said she was perfect the way she was. Why would they lie?[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
III. PRIVATE- Luna is a private person. She only tells things of her past with people she trusts, or, upon occasion, she feels needs to hear that particular snippet of truth. Luna keeps any emotion she has to herself, simply stating blandly that she feels something about a particular topic. Luna does not display emotion before others, preferring to keep any emotions she feels to herself. Luna is also not a gossiping girl, preferring to learn things about other people because they chose to tell her rather than finding out she was talking about them behind her back. Luna wouldn’t like others to be able to discuss her life when she wasn’t around. Being private means she has hard to reach at times and is thus elusive which puts people off getting to know her. It’s like you don’t really get anything back at times because Luna doesn’t just give herself away and it can be difficult to recognise when she is.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
IV. DREAMY - Luna likes to daydream and has a dreamy quality about her. She’s not always in touch with reality because she possesses a vivid and active imagination. This often can send people into irritation because they feel she is not taking the circumstances seriously or paying the due attention. Luna can be lost in her thoughts and miss half a conversation before she realises people are talking. Her obliviousness to the world around her can be endearing at times or just plain odd. Luna is always thinking about something and an active brain is full of thoughts. She lives at her own pace and in her own world sometimes but she always comes out of it when you need her.
[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
V. CONCENTRATION- Luna can be so deep in concentration she misses the start of conversation. Or, perhaps more commonly, Luna can veer off in the middle of a conversation, randomly changing it to something else. She can find herself distracted someone passing her in the corridor, a cloud when she’s supposed to be commentating the Quidditch Match, or a floating feather when she’s supposed to be discussing the project for charms. When it counts however, like in a battle for lives, Luna’s concentration does not waver. It only does in everyday life. [dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VI. EMOTIONALLY DISTANT- It would be reasonable to say Luna is emotionally distant. She claims her mother’s death still makes her sad, and it does, but she says it with the exact same intonation she speaks about everything else in. Her mother’s death did damage Luna emotionally and she never properly recovered. To protect herself from pain she distanced herself emotionally from the world around her to protect herself from pain. The world could be exploding around her and Luna will still have the same expression on her face with her eyes wide and slightly vacant. Her friends could be injured and she’ll face the problem as she did at the start. Her emotions rarely change no matter the situation, even when faced with her own demise.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VII. FEAR LACKING - Luna lacks fear, and the kind of self preservation that makes people’s hearts beat faster when danger and makes them panic – Luna just doesn’t have it. She can stare into the face of danger, keep her head and keep going. It’s potentially dangerous because fear makes you fight harder. People always fight differently when they feel for their mortality. Luna doesn’t ever fear for her life. If she dies she dies and she’ll see her mum again, and she’ll wait for dad and anyone else she wants to see. Luna doesn’t want to die, but she’ll accept her time has come. Her lack of fear, fear of death and of pain makes her less likely to run faster and jump higher because she lacks that self preservation kick.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
VIII. CONVERSATION- Luna does not possess the best communicative skills. When she speaks people tend to ignore her or not hear what she’s saying and thus her message is lost. Also she might not continue with the thread of a conversation since she does have a tendency to switch topics often without warning her conversing partner. Although Luna can explain things perfectly well, she usually expects others to draw logical conclusions and so often ends up going back a step to explain what the other missed. Luna tends to wait for others to come to her than seeking out others. [/ul]
GOALS:
II. TO HAVE CHILDREN AND GROW OLD WITH SOMEONE – Luna wants to have a constant companion and preferably children too, but that part is negotiable. Although she isn’t particularly bothered about relationships and isn’t necessarily looking for anyone right now she does know she wants what her parents had. She wants love and to come home to someone who misses her. Perhaps her idea of relationships is idealistic but she believes if you really care about someone then the relationship should be easy and not something to be worked hard at. That being said, she’s not really had much experience through her parents of it since her mother died when she was 9 and her father never even looked at another woman.[dohtml]
[/dohtml]
III. TO CONFIRM THE EXISTENCE OF THE CRUMPLED SNORCACK – It would make her, and more importantly her father very happy to discover the incontrovertible evidence the Crumpled Snorcack exists. So far there have been no pictures or even proper profiles on the creature. Despite this Luna still believes in its existence but would like proof. It’s more for her father really, than for her, but it would be really satisfying to stump critics of the Quibbler and her father. It would be a great naturalist discovery. If the Crumpled Snorcack exists and is being ignored, what else does?[/ul]
BOGGART:
PATRONUS:
ERISED:
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Luna Lovegood, as a young child, had been an inquisitive one. She asked a lot of questions, trained to do so by her parents who were always asking questions of the world. She had been taught form a young age that asking for help with something, for example, the meaning of a word or to draw this or set the table, was not a sign of weakness but of strength. And so Luna had taken that on board and asked whenever she came across something she didn’t know or understand. She came to expect patient explanations from her parents.
As a child Luna had talked a lot. She had had a lot to say because she had a lot to learn and she had recognised that fact from early on. Her parents instilled a sense of hard work and conscientiousness from a very young age and she took that with her throughout her pre-pubescent and teenage years.
Luna had always been extremely open minded, open to ideas and thoughts and notions that other children her age found ridiculous or daft. Luna never changed in this respect, and so she became to be thought of as weird. Very few people in the world take her open minded nature to the extreme she does but it makes Luna wonderfully unique and intriguing.
The death of her mother did more damage than anyone could realise. It made Luna instinctively protect herself from such pain again and so she became, not emotionally detached for she still feels emotions clearly, but emotionally distant. It can appear difficult to get an emotional response from Luna. In fact, she often seems to be detached from the situation at hand even if it is intense and troubling. For instance she maintained a cool and even head throughout the Battle of Hogwarts and Department of Mysteries – not once becoming overwhelmed by emotion or even having to deal with them in particular. That does not mean she did not worry for her friends safety, she did. She feared for their safety, but Luna did not and does not fear for her own.
To match her open mindedness comes an unfathomable faith that very few people can match. Her faith is so strong that it allows her to ignore denial from others. Luna believes in Nargles and other such creatures – saying they do not exist will not stop her from believing in them. Her utter faith often rubs people the wrong way, allowing them to think she’s crazy and deranged. It is probably this quality, coupled with her dreamy serenity, that sparked people to call her ‘loony’ and to think of her as loony.
Luna does possess an ethereal serenity – an unyielding calm state that is rarely broken. Luna is calm and level headed at all times. Fear and panic does not seem to touch her. Danger is something Luna accepts as the current norm and easily adapts to fit a role of a warrior rather than that of a scared little girl fending off the monsters. This strange lack of fear is another product of her mother’s dead, a dangerous quality that luckily served her well during the War. Luna does not view death as the end, but the reunion between herself and her mother. It is a comforting thought and one she truly believes in. Luna may not want to die, her lack of fear of such things does not come from a wish for this existence to end but rather from the acceptance that one day it will – and nothing she can do will change that.
She’s one of the most understanding and accepting people in the world. She accepts danger and adapts. She accepts one day she will die and so she does not fear death. She accepts that not everyone in the world will like her, and that people find her strange and so ignores their taunts and jibes. Luna doesn’t like the name ‘loony’ or that people steal her things but she very much embraces the Serenity Prayer and recognises it isn’t a necessary battle in her life. People will keep stealing her shoes – she can’t stop them from doing it. Luna accepts the things in life she cannot change.
She doesn’t judge others. She views everyone she meets as equally powerful and able. She respects all life whether it is a thestral, a plant, a werewolf or a house elf. She doesn’t care about blood status and finds what’s in your heart and in your head to be of most value and defining. Blood is useful when you need it – for transfusions – and for keeping you alive. She’s unprejudiced and unbiased. If someone wants her to lend them an ear and tells her they’ve done some things they feel bad about, Luna will not judge them because they are trying to make amends.
Luna is a very reliable young woman. If she says she’ll be there, she will. Luna can go beyond what is normally expected from her, so much so that she’ll serve to remind one that they do not have to fight battles alone (however small or large they may be). Sometimes Luna is there for people even when they do not realise they need her to be. Somehow, you can always depend on Luna to have your back and help you out in a jam.
She’s got bundles of common sense and is very logical despite her faith in that which has not been proven. She’s very good at solving puzzles.
Luna is also a very considerate person. She takes no offence if you don’t want her around at that moment in time. She’ll make herself scarce if that’s what you want, or offer comfort if that is what you need too. She tends to think of others before herself. For instance she thought only that Harry Potter needed help during her fourth year – never why or how it would consequently affect her life. That had been all that mattered to her, and so she fought with him in the Department of Mysteries. In fact, she insisted upon going.
Luna is a very loyal and brave young girl. At cost to herself, not matter what that may be, she’ll stand and fight and do the right thing. She’ll stand up for others when they can’t, and even when they can. It takes more than a few well placed lies to break Luna’s trust in someone too. She’s extremely loyal. You won’t see her breaking the trust of someone lightly. If it’s the only thing she can do to save a person, then, painfully and regretfully Luna will do it because she’d rather that person live and by angry with her than be dead. Things have a way of sorting themselves out, even if it takes the death of one or both of them for that to happen.
She’s a forgiving soul who doesn’t hold past deeds against a person. She takes them into account, yes, but also considers their current actions and what they want from life. If a person who had tried to kill someone in the past expressed remorse and was trying to save lives now she wouldn’t hold that attempt against them. The past is relative, just as safe as relative. How safe were they ever at Hogwarts? Luna learned over the years that safety is an illusion people afford themselves to make themselves feel better. Forgiveness doesnt’ take much.
This Ravenclaw graduate is very creative. During her fifth year she made a lion hat that roared in support of Gryffindor when Ravenclaw had been knocked out of the running of the Quidditch Cup. Her creativity and imagination stretches far and wide and knows very little bounds. She’s someone who can think inside and outside the box – though tends to think outside of it more than she thinks inside it.
In a way she’s unyielding. Her loyalty is unwavering, just as her resolve is. Facing certain death and danger doesn’t make Luna want to run. She stands her grounds for all that she believes in and is not easily dissuaded from acts she has set her mind to committing. In fact, it’s downright impossible to change her mind – unless you present a good and solid argument that she can’t find any holes in. That is extremely unlikely of course. Luna stands up for her beliefs even as the world laughs at her. She will not stop believing in something just because someone else believes differently. The world wouldn’t be the place it was today if everyone did that.
Luna Ophelia Lovegood inherited a powerful sense of intuition from her parents – in particular, her mother. She gets vibes from people – a sense of who and what they are. Although not infallible, of course no one is, Luna rarely gets it wrong. She just knows when someone is upset and need comforting or is losing their way and needs a dose of another perspective. Luna is very good at inserting herself into these situations without being pushy or demanding or overwhelming and offering advice without demand for payment or even being asked. Luna is good at guiding lost souls without being intrusive because Luna is not an intrusive personality. She’s a very considerate and tactful personality who stays true to her faith.
While her complete resounding faith in things that have yet to be proven, or disbelieved by others is one of the most noticeable things about her, another is her social ineptness. Luna doesn’t not know, and has never been able to figure out how to properly insert herself into society without alienating those around her in some way. She refuses to be something other than she is and doesnt’ believe she should have to change to fit in. She doesn’t understand social mechanics or the norms of society but she does understand people. Luna, from birth to now, has never been good at making friends and has developed no tactics, like so many others, to do so.
Luna is also romantically naive. She’s never dated anyone or had much of an interest in anyone beyond a simple friendship level. She knows and believes that there are any kinds of love and that love is not a simple idea held in the hearts of all humans. It is complicated and messy but it is also distant and abstract to Luna.
Luna also holds a lot of empathy. She can empathise and sympathise easily with others. After the Battle of Hogwarts, recognising harry’s need to be alone, created a distraction. She felt for his awkwardness and so tried to solve that problem by allowing him to slip away unnoticed.
