BY ACE At 2 AM, there was a report of a break in of a flat where roomates where reported to have taken part in the cursing of an object, which was to be sent to an unknown party. This curse could have severely injured or killed the recipient, and thus the men were to be apprehended. Ministry Officials with the Department of Law Enforcement attempted to peacefully resolve the situation, but they were forced to resort to deadly means to subdue the accused. Witnesses were reported to have heard the unmistakable sounds of curses being cast before being jolted out of bed by a loud blast. Erzebet Falguerra, of the Department of Law Enforcement, gave her account of the incident before leaving the scene, "They were attempting to curse an object, likely to send to some unsuspecting muggle. When I arrived, they attempted to flee the scene using unforgivable curses, they did not succeed." Miss Falguerra was then asked about the unusual level of property damage and loss of life, to which she said, "If they did not want to die, they should not have committed such crimes. If they'd managed to kill me, would you be asking the same questions?" When asked to identify the evidence that linked these men to You-Know-Who, Miss Falguerra refused to comment. However, with the level of property damage, it can be assumed the evidence was destroyed in the struggle. A few muggles were injured in the disturbance, and had to be rushed to the hospital. People who knew the roomates were surprised by the situation. As rumors of You-Know-Who's return surface and sightings of escaped Azkaban inmates the Lestranges have been reported, the Ministry of Magic has begun to take steps to nuetralize this and all threats to the safety of the Wizarding World. It appears that the Department of Law Enforcement has decided to follow the example of the late Barty Crouch Sr., who led a campaign of order against the forces of You-Know-Who during the First Wizarding War. ------------------------------ New Insights Into the Wolfsbane Potion By Mete Recent reports from the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures' Being Division for research into improvements on the Wolfsbane Potion have confirmed for the Daily Prophet that a grant has been issued to a developer who is seeking to create a more affordable version of the highly coveted and deeply necessary werewolf violence reducer. The potion, created by Damocles in 1975, is the only current reliever of the symptoms of lycanthropy. While it is a long way from a cure, it does award the werewolf with a sense of self during the full moon and keeps them fairly passive. According to our source, the current ingredients and the high complexity of the Wolfsbane Potion is what makes it so expensive to obtain. "Incredible amounts of [work and stress] go into the brewing process of the Wolfsbane Potion, and only the most accomplished of potioneers are able to properly replicate it as it stands now," States Geoffrey Pippin, son of Jack Pippin of Pippin's Potions chain of apothecaries. This is one of the primary reasons the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures' Being Division created the research into improvements program. "Wolfsbane is something that should be available to any werewolf out there, not just for their comfort, but for the safety of others as well," Our source in the Werewolf Support Services tells us. "Fact of the matter is, most werewolves are living in poverty. No self respecting wizarding institution is going to give a werewolf a long standing job - its too dangerous. Without something to stabilize them, they can't work. If they can't work, they can't afford what stabilizes them. It's a vicious cycle." Currently, the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures is keeping quiet who their developer is, as they do not wish to jeopardize the project. It has been mentioned that the developer 'wishes to remain anonymous' and that once the improvements are complete, they will be placed under public licensing, allowing the Ministry to take full credit for the changes. We at the Daily Prophet find this to be the most interesting of the developments, as very few potioneers are willing to grant their work over so easily, without any recognition. It leads us to believe that it may very well be a werewolf working on this project, which would be precisely why the Ministry wants to keep it quiet! For anyone with further information on this story or its developments, please contact Rita Skeeter via Owl, RE: Wolfsbane. ------------------------------ PUPILS FEAR RETURN TO HOGWARTS By Slayer As the pupils of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy return for yet another year of spells and potions learning, it is clear among students and parents alike that there is a mixed concern about the students return, amongst recent rumours of You-Know-Who’s recent activity. There are many rumours concerning the Headmaster Albus Dumbledore’s sanity, is he really too old to be making safe and correct decisions for the students safety? Hogwarts has always remained one of the safest places in the Wizarding World, protected by centuries of magic, but for how long will this remain if the Headmaster is not taking appropriate action against the forces that threaten the student’s safety. Our sources have informed us that extra precautions have been put into place to ensure the pupils continued safety at Hogwarts, and one can only hope You-Know-who chooses to leave the school alone. For the safety of all our children. ------------------------------ AN INTERVIEW WITH HARRY POTTER AND NOAH MARKS How would you describe your relationship with Noah/Harry? HARRY: "Well, I mean he's a good bloke. He's definitely one one my better friends... If Ron or Hermione aren't around, he's a good person to talk to." NOAH: “Harry and I have a very comfortable relationship. We’ve known each other for years now, since Harry’s first year and my second when we started playing quidditch together. I treat Harry like a normal human being, not a celebrity. He’s a great guy, and we spend most of our time discussing things that don’t revolve around Harry’s other obligations. It’s a very compatible and easygoing relationship.” What do you like the most about Noah/Harry? HARRY: "He treats me like a person. I'm not some celebrity to him. I'm just Harry, and really that means more to me than anything." NOAH: “Harry is admirable, obviously. I think what I like the absolute most about Harry is his courage and bravery. He represents us Gryffindors so well in that aspect. Faced with his situation, I know I wouldn’t be nearly as brave. “ What’s the most memorable memory that you share with this person? HARRY: "Er... Well, he's older than me so we really don't get to spend that much time together. Really besides a few classes and views, we only share Quidditch... So I'd have to say any of the games of Quidditch we've played together." NOAH: “My most memorable memory with Harry would probably be the first quidditch match we won together. Quidditch is what brought us together as friends originally, and it’s always been a focal point of our friendship.” What gift would you give Noah for Christmas? HARRY: What would I... what? Why? This isn't for Rita Skeeter is it? Because if it is, you'd best just leave... I don't need you or her turning my words around anymore... It's not? You sure? Okay... I guess Quidditch supplies. NOAH: “Hm, this is a tough one. I would like to get him something that would help him in the long run, with defeating You-Know-Who and all, but I’m not sure I could even come up with something practical. I’d probably end up getting him something quidditch related.” Who would win in a duel between you both and why? HARRY: "Why would I have a duel with him? I don't know... it's not something I go around thinking about. Look, are we done here? Not to be rude, but I've got a class in five minutes on the other side of the castle, and I'd rather not get detention for being late." NOAH: “He’s Harry Potter. Do I need to say anything further?” ------------------------------ AN INTERVIEW WITH PHILIPPA BRYNN RYDER Whats your strongest childhood memory? "Define childhood? Does thirteen count? It was the night of my thirteenth birthday, actually. My brothers - Jax, Hal - surprised me and took me out to a festival, just the three of us. The beauty of my birthday is that it's only a few days before Halloween, so there's always some sort of excitement. Jax used to say it was all for me; even the people in town knew I belonged in the world of witchcraft and wizardry. But, there wasn't a drop of magic then and, still, it was the most relaxed I had felt since the incident. It's amazing how clearly I can picture everything now - the red of the bobbing apples, Jax trying to convince Hal to spike the punch, the lop-sided grin on our carved jack-o-lantern, the smell of cider. No wonder I need the three of us running from tent to tent that night to conjure a Patronus, huh? Who would you say has been the biggest inspiration for you in your life? "I think it would be safe to say my mother, Marietta Ryder. I know how terribly cliche that all sounds, but she was an amazing person. She was kind and caring and could play piano like no other. But most of all, despite being a muggle, she loved magic. She embraced it with every thing she had and simply didn't look back. She was fearless. Oh, she'd have been sorted into Gryffindor like that. And, while this may be a surprise to a few people, she had a greater sense of curiosity than I do. I try to look at the world like she had -- with that same sense of intrigue and awe. Plus, she loved my father and that was no small feat. Says a lot about her character right there. [laughs] On a lighter note, I've learned quite a bit from the Weasley twins -- wait, no! Don't write that. Ugh, you do know the egos I'd have to deal with after...why are you still writing?" What attracts you the most? What do you look for in a serious relationship? "Well, this is going to make me sound like a cheesy romance novel. But, you know that look in certain people's eyes? Call it a sparkle, or a gleam, or what have you, but it's that look you get before laughing. It's like a spirit or liveliness. Anyways, I find that to be incredibly attractive. So, I guess you could call me an 'eyes girl'. As for relationships, you should always look for someone to laugh with and to challenge you. Someone who makes you smile just by thinking about them. [smiles now herself] I think the best relationships come from friendships...Where are you going to find someone who's more loyal, or knows you better than your best friend? No where. Trust me on that." Who’s your biggest rival at Hogwarts? "Rival. That sounds so serious. I'd almost be honored to be someone's rival. But no, anyone and everyone who has ever earnestly used the word....mudblood...we most certainly do not get along. Those folks who are a part of the future Death Eaters of Britain are my primary rivals. And I think a majority of people will know the exact lot I'm referring to when I say that. If rivals could be friendly, though, Professor McGonagall might be fair game, but sometimes I wonder if she secretly finds the pranks and all as entertaining as I do. Everyone has a goofy side, right? Somewhere? Maybe under that big bun of hers?" You have to go into the forbidden forest to collect a magical plant for potions, who would you want to take with you? "Now, that may be the easiest question you've asked me! Noah, of course. Noah Marks. I wouldn't dream of taking someone else; I couldn't go in without my partner in crime. If anyone could make homework into an adventure, it'd be Noah. [grins] As long as you're not going to give me a detention, I'll admit that we've made one or two excursions into the forbidden forest before. But I'll also add that it's a little disheartening that this rhetorical trip would be required for a class...that kind of ruins the whole forbidden bit, eh?" |
