Personality
LIKES:
- Books – okay, call that a cliché, but in all honesty, Eirian can be found reading a NON school book (she loves murder mysteries) two times out of three
- Riddles – one of her goals is it to one day solve all the riddles in this world, and she especially loves lateral puzzles
- Quidditch – she loves watching it as much as playing, but playing maybe just a TAD more, since she is also very competitive. And hey, her parents fell in love on a Quidditch World Cup, it’s in her blood!
- History – The riddles and outcomes of the past deeply fascinate Eirian, she wants to know WHY things happened like they did and why not otherwise
- Water – swimming will stay her second best hobby for quite a while
- Wizard Chess – There’s nothing like a good old chess strategy in her opinion, she especially loves it when games continue for quite some while, easy victories are not hers
DISLIKES:
- People who think her just a pretty face – there are few, thankfully, who openly show this opinion, but when it happens, Eirian can get quite snappy
- Bullies – this is especially where her sense of justice comes in!
- Fire – Ever since she got caught in a house fire once, she doesn’t deal well at all with open fire, fireplaces though are okay.
- Ghosts – a bit awkward when being in Hogwarts, but as a younger child she was mortally afraid of her grandfather’s ghost and she still gets an uneasy feeling about them
- Peeves – Peeves and her have a little unpleasant history, he likes to play the ‘FIRE!’ joke on her quite a lot… it’s just not funny.
STRENGNTHS:
- Solving Riddles
- Scoring Penalties
- Logical Approaches
- She’s very loyal
WEAKNESS:
- Expressing or showing emotions (they confuse her)
- She can be a bit TOO competitive
- Her craving for justice and equality might be viewed by others as obsessive
- She suffers from nightmares
- Fears large dogs (it could be the Grim!!)
GOALS:
- Ravenclaw finally winning either the House Cup or the Quidditch Cup
- To get very good grades
- Solving all riddles in the world
- Hopefully one day overcoming her fears

OVERALL PERSONALITY: The first word that might spring to mind about Eirian would probably be ambitious. She likes the stakes to be high, and even if she can’t manage them at first, second, or third try, she will always keep returning to that one particular spot, until she has managed it. She sees the world through the eyes of logic, so things that don’t have a logical explanation and even refuse to be viewed at with any common sense, confuse her to the point of being scared. Feelings for example are part of that category. She isn’t good at expressing them, and usually appears very calm and collected – if she doesn’t, she will fret about it for hours afterwards, trying to explore just WHAT made her say or do such an illogical thing.
She is a dedicated Quidditch player, and that is the only time you might catch a decent amount of heightened emotions with her, though if something goes wrong and they lost a game, she’s the first to do practical analysis, instead of ranting about other players and the referee. She loves to solve riddles of all kind, and it’s her trademark you will always find her with one practically on her lips. If you find her staring into space… she’s probably about to solve a particularly tough nut.
Even though she doesn’t show emotions well, she will be a loyal friend to you, just more in deeds than in words. She will help you, should you need assistance in schoolwork, but she won’t let herself be exploited either. If you can put up with most of her quirks, then she will never let you down!

OVERALL HISTORY:
Gwillym Hughes and Iolana Kahele met under the most peculiar of circumstances. They shouldn’t have even met at all, weren’t it for a passion they both shared and that always got people together, from all over the world: Quidditch. There had been a World Cup held in Peru, and Gwillym couldn’t resist the calling and the temptation to travel there, even though it was so far away. Iolana, a young Hawaiian girl had taken the same opportunity, rooting for the team of the United States. Fate had assigned them places in the stands next to each other, and over a thrilling game they formed a gentle bond which was only increased over the following days. The finale came and with it the looming danger of separation, but neither of them could really bear the thought of leaving the other behind. In the end, it was Iolana who made the decision to come with Gwillym before he could even find the courage to ask her.
For her it was quite a cultural shock, settling from the lush and warm island of Hawaii into the rough and lonely shore of Wales. She was eyed with much curiosity at first, but slowly the Hughes family accepted her and even grew fond of her sweet nature and her dedication towards Gwillym and when they had their first child, a healthy boy they named Meical, all was well.
Eirian was their third and last child, and she should turn out to be quite different from her older siblings. Even at a young age, she showed a quick wit and an adaptive mind, finding things intriguing that went far beyond her years.
Meical was finding his own way, and he and Eirian always got along well with each other, but it was Alice who continued to see her little sister as serious competition, not bearing the thought of knowing less than her, or being slower in thinking. That rivalry only increased when Alice was found out to be a squib, and it was clear Eirian was not.
It was shortly after Eirian turned ten when her overall idyllic world experienced the first distinctive crack. They had been over at their grandparent’s house in the same village for dinner, just a little further down the road towards the coast, and after dinner the family sat together around the fireplace, drinking tea. Granny Riannon, who prided herself to be versed in the art of Divination, began to read the tea leaves for each and everyone of the little party. Eirian was quite sleepy and nearly dozed off, when the clattering of porcellain and a shocked scream sent her bolt awake. “The Grim! Oh my poor dear, my Trevor!!!” granny Riannon wailed. A shocked silence settled on the room. Especially in this rural background nearly everyone believed in the Grim as a sign of oncoming death. Grandpa Trevor was in grave danger.
That night, no one but the children found safe and sound sleep, even though after a while even the adults started to excuse themselves. Because Eirian could not be woken, her father carried her upstairs, while he took Meical and Alice back home. Iolana stayed with Riannon to calm her down, and Trevor stayed alone in front of the fire, pondering over his life.<br>
When Eirian awoke again, it was because she had difficulties breathing. Something was wrong, it was too hot in the room, and there was something wafting through the room. Mist? No, it was smoke! The first little flames began to lick at the floor boards under Eirian’s trembling feet and then she heard the desperate calling of her name from outside. Whatever Guardian Angel watched over her, it did an excellent job, as Eirian somehow found her way towards the little window frame and was able to squeeze through, letting herself fall without hesitation as she saw the eerily glowing figure of her father standing down below.
That night left Eirian with a lasting fire trauma which she only learned to control over the years. She had survived the fire, but Grandpa Trevor had not. The Grim had taken him, just like the stories said. Ever since then, it is Eirian’s greatest fear to one day see the Grim, and it didn’t help the little girl at all that the ghost of her grandfather now started haunting their house.
It was a blessing for Eirian when she got her Hogwarts letter which sent her away from these disturbing memories. Being sorted into Ravenclaw, she finally found her ambitions being met and flourished into an inquisitive young witch. Having inherited the love for Quidditch, she applied for her House team in her second year, becoming one of the three chasers.
Over the years, Eirian lost some of her fears, but some will always stay with her. She witnessed the disturbing happenings around the famous Harry Potter from afar, but until now they haven’t been much of her concern.
