The State Of The Village
Hogsmeade Village was all but destroyed in the attack launched by the Dark Lord's followers on December 21st, 1996. Buildings were leveled to the ground as a result of Death Eaters exploding them in order to corral and herd the rampant werewolves back toward the trapped villagers. There are bloodstains on the cobblestones, hidden pockets of fiendfire still burning in embers in the West and South ends of the village and sinkholes located in the North and West ends where the tunnel system built by Xemnas Augustine have collapsed.
The Three Broomsticks, a popular wizarding pub frequented by Hogwarts students and staff alike, was located in the center of the village where fiendfire had been all but running wild. It is currently the only building fully restored, as efforts were placed in rebuilding a center that Aurors, Ministry workers and community volunteers could use as a base of operations.
There are work tents erected in the North, East, South and Western quarters where volunteers and Auror leaders can take their breaks and receive refreshments as they work. Currently the safest and most rebuilt quarter is the Eastern section where the vast majority of wizarding homes were located.
The shops located in the village South and Western quarters have also received attention, but the village remains very much a sight of scorched desolation.
Restoring Hogsmeade is not up to the NPC's alone - Player Characters are invited and encouraged to create restoration threads. For each thread that rebuilds a specific shop more of Hogsmeade will be counted as officially rebuilt.
Students are welcome to volunteer toward this effort as well, provided they are in Sixth or Seventh Year, have a signed permission form from their parents, and have signed up for that weekend's delegation. Only seven students will be allowed in the village at one time, and only through specific hours, as the risk to the village is still considered as High.
The citizens of Hogsmeade are being housed by friends, family, and Ministry officials who have opened their homes to them in this time of need. Certain families with large estates have also volunteered their homes to the community. Long term restoration volunteers stay at the Three Broomsticks, or in the Ground Floor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At this point in time, the rooms for volunteers at Hogwarts are limited to members of the Department for Magical Law Enforcement only, though of course volunteers are welcome to dine at the castle if they should see fit to do so.
