LIKES:
Shopping: It’s only fitting for a woman of her social standing and wealth to enjoy a bit of reckless spending. Be it for new broom for Draco, a new set of robes, or simply potion ingredients, Narcissa enjoys retail therapy as much as the next girl. Not only muggles get to shop, after all.
Snape: Severus Snape has done a great deal of good for Narcissa and her family. He is one of the few halfbloods she does not despise on sheer principal, and for good reason. Severus has looked after Draco when she herself was incapable of doing so, playing the role of his Godfather precisely how Narcissa knew he would.
You-Know-Who: Though the Dark Lord has his faults, his mission is one she believes in and therefore she follows him blindly. She has not received the dark mark and does not plan to unless it is absolutely necessary, but she believes she has made her loyalty quite clear to him a thousand times over. There has yet to be a disagreement.
Luxury: Narcissa has been described more than once as proud and sometimes petty, and she prefers to be in the lap of luxury whenever possible. She finds herself uncomfortable when surrounded by filth or things below her standards, which is no surprise given the way she was raised.

GOALS:
Ensure Draco’s Safety and Success: It is as important as it ever was to see Draco graduate Hogwarts safely. He has so much in store for him, and she doesn’t want to see that trampled by poor grades, death or worse, the loss of the Malfoy reputation. [/ul]

OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Narcissa Malfoy is generally perceived as a cold, detached, and highly opinionated individual. She was raised to be intolerant of those deemed inferior to her, and she does and has always operated as such. Others often describe her as overly-proud and vain, which is entirely true – not even Narcissa herself would disagree. Her narcissism runs rampant, and encompasses far more than just her outward appearance which, naturally, is always put together. Narcissa strives to be better than everyone in every single facet of her life, from who she associates with to how her home is decorated.
Narcissa isn’t entirely one-dimensional, however. Narcissa, when in the company of those she cares deeply for, can be utterly loving and attentive. This is observed mostly with her son, Draco, who has, since his birth, been the light of her life. She displays some semblance of love towards her sister Bellatrix as well, and there was a time when she had loved Lucius more fiercely than any other being on this earth. That time has long since passed.
Coming from the namesake she does, Narcissa is obsessed with social standing and reputation. There is nothing worse to her than being seen as inferior to others, or hearing her name involved in scandal. Recently this has become a source of quite a bit of stress for her, as her husband screws up time and time again. Luckily, Cissa does not break easily under pressure and is capable of keeping a calm and collected outward appearance in the face of danger or adversity.
Though Narcissa is far more sane than her sister Bellatrix, she possess the same hot, quick temper and the ability to produce cold, biting words that sting more harshly than any slap and can cut more deeply than the sharpest of knives. Narcissa has little tolerance for idiocy or stupidity, and will happily tell anyone exactly where to go if they are acting out of order. [/quote]

OVERALL HISTORY:
Narcissa Dorea Black was born in the later months of 1955 to Cygnus and Druella Black in an upstanding manor in West Sussex. She was the youngest of three daughters, and as such was often treated as the most fragile. This, fortunately, was not so. Narcissa quickly grew into her role as a daughter of the House of Black, proud, strong, and proper as anyone could have hoped. She was, to some degree, the favorite daughter, much to her pride and, in her belief, her elder sisters’ dismay.
In her youth Narcissa was taught almost solely by her mother when it came to magic. Though she was not permitted to practice it out of school, which was an annoyance at best, she did learn a great deal from observing her mother and reading the books she was given. It came as no shock that by the time she entered Hogwarts, she was already well educated on the history of the school and of the more practical forms of magic. She expressed a great interest in arithmancy and other logic-based magic.
When it came to her Family History, Cygnus was there to teach her with a stern voice and a dark look in his eye. He taught her the family tree, going into great detail when speaking of their ancestors. Eventually it came to the point where Narcissa felt she knew each witch and wizard intimately, as if they had coddled her as a newborn and had held her when she cried. She loved them, each and every Black that had come before her, and she respected them for their feats.
Family life was simple. There were fights and arguments, as there would be in any other family. Cygnus and Druella were sometimes distant or a bit cold, but they were far from terrible parents. The girls were spoiled when they did their parents proud, and often times it appeared that they could do no wrong, in the eyes of Cygnus especially. Narcissa was close to her father, who doted upon her every need. She oftentimes alienated Druella when she was upset, and never was quite as close to her as she could have been.
From the moment that Narcissa could talk, or at the very least understand when her parents spoke, she was fostered into the belief that purebloods were far more worthy than halfbloods, and that mudbloods should be stamped out of the magical community entirely. There was no questioning this. Narcissa had, at the tender age of five, had marched up to her mother and demanded to know just what was so bad about those who came from a non-magical lineage. She had very indignantly said that she thought there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Magic was good, and those who practiced magic ought to be good as well. There had been no gentle explanation that one would often use with one as young as she had been. Her father had watched with a stern look of displeasure as her mother had punished her.
Narcissa never questioned the belief again. Instead she listened intently when her parents talked ill of these people, and soon began to understand the reasons why the mudbloods were destroying the magical community. Her mind remained impressionable, and as she grew her hatred for those from non-magical homes could only grow and expand. Purebloods had been selective, they had worked hard to keep their families pure, strong, and muggle-free. Breeding with the non-magical was a disgrace.
Upon Narcissa’s arrival to Hogwarts, she was sorted into Slytherin, the same as her elder sisters and the vast majority of her family had been. Her pride for the house of snakes had been high long before she entered the Great Hall for the sorting ceremony, but it only seemed to grow from there on out. She was a good student and a social butterfly within her house, though she often looked down on the outsiders, particularly those in Gryffindor house like her cousin Sirius Black. She had, at one point, been close to Sirius, but that quickly changed when he disgraced their family with his sorting. She remembers vividly the first day in her fourth year when she watched him stride proudly to the Gryffindor table. From that day on they no longer were family, but enemies who happened to share a name.
Narcissa quickly found herself settling in. She became absorbed in the social life Hogwarts had to offer, and though she did spend a good portion of her time studying she was never lacking company. Throughout her Hogwarts career it would become quite plain that Narcissa excelled in Charms and Potions, which she found she had quite an interest in. Between her first and third years at the school she was a member of many clubs and organizations, including the gobstones club, the charms club, and the potions club, and several others. Narcissa joined the dueling club late in her third year and continued it into her fifth year.
It was in her fourth year that she met Severus Snape, a boy that would quickly win her attention and her heart. He was hardly attractive at the age of eleven, and his personality had required quite a bit of work, but the twitchy youngster managed to work his way into Narcissa’s sights, despite being a half-blood. She rarely spoke of Severus to her family and only ever mentioned him in passing, knowing that they would strongly disapprove of her closeness with the boy. Fortunately, that did not stop her from getting to know him.
Severus, with his nervous temperament and greasy hair, seemed to be an easy target for the other students in his year, and Narcissa will never forget the day she got detention for hexing the literal snot out of her cousin after she caught him tormenting Severus. Their friendship only grew from there, and became something she would cherish for the rest of her life.
Somewhere down the line Narcissa managed to develop feelings for him that transcended that of friendship. Her crush was disconcerting at best and quickly became her best kept secret. Briefly Narcissa had considered cutting off her contact with him, ignoring him in the halls and letting the others pick on him while she turned a blind eye to all of it, but the sparks of compassion in her never allowed it. Instead she carried on with their friendship, pushing her feelings for him down even as they continued to grow.
Narcissa bogged her schedule down with electives as soon as she was allowed to. She tried her hand at a good number of them from her third to fifth year, and kept several into her sixth and seventh. She achieved a score of O on her Potions O.W.L, which caught the attention of Potions Professor Horace Slughorn. She was invited to one of the Slug Club meetings, where she became better acquainted with childhood acquaintance and fellow pureblood wizard, Lucius Malfoy.
Lucius Malfoy was from a family with a magical history as rich as her own, and when it became apparent that he had developed an interest in her, she allowed herself to get to know him. With the knowledge that nothing could come from a relationship with Snape without having her name burned off the family tree, she cast those romantic feelings aside in favor of the blonde haired, blue-eyed prefect who rather quickly won her heart.
Narcissa fell madly and almost wildly in love with Lucius and could not be happier when they graduated and, metaphorically of course, walked off into the sunset arm in arm. They were married soon after graduation, and she quickly became pregnant with their first and only son, Draco, who was born in 1980. Narcissa’s honeymoon phase had been short-lived. Lucius enlisted with the Dark Lord around the same time she announced her pregnancy and that was when the stress began. While she did not disapprove of what her husband and the Dark Lord were trying to accomplish, she desperately wanted assurance that Lucius would be around and not dead or in Azkaban when their son was born. Severus Snape was named Draco’s godfather.
Luckily, when Lucius was caught he managed to get off with the claim that he was under an Imperius curse, and they lived once again in peace, with Lucius firmly in his seat at the ministry. Though she thought his refusal to acknowledge his allegiance with Lord Voldemort cowardly, she was grateful that her son would not have to be raised in a home without a father, and that their good name had not been tarnished.
Life was easy once again for many years, until around 1991 when Voldemort became active once again through the body of Hogwarts Professor Quirinus Quirrell. Narcissa fell once again into the habit of worrying over her husband and, now, her son as he was whisked off to start his first year at Hogwarts alongside the ‘Chosen One’, Harry Potter.
Narcissa struggled to hold her head high and to keep a calm expression as things began to crumble. Her father passed away in 1992, leaving Narcissa pained and emotionally crippled despite all attempts at remaining as collected as ever. Nights were spend crying and fretting in the solace of the Malfoy Manor’s library, away from the prying eyes and ears of the house elves, and the face of her loving husband.
Narcissa managed to keep her cool persona for the next three years, until the Quidditch World Cup in 1994. She remembered vividly how things had begun to crumble after the game, how the dark mark had appeared in the sky and how terror had filled the hearts of each and every attendee camping out on the grounds. She had fled with Draco in tow the moment she heard the first note of a scream, leaving Lucius to his duty to the Dark Lord.
Her husband’s cowardice became more and clearer as the years passed. Everything fell apart when Lucius was captured during the break in at the ministry, and her family’s name was on the front page of every wizarding newspaper that Great Britain had to offer. Shame cast down upon them as Lucius was thrown into Azkaban, his previous excuse of being under the imperius no longer granting him immunity. Narcissa became the head of her household and invited Lord Voldemort into her home in an effort to prove her strength and her loyalty where her husband had been incapable of doing so. The Malfoy Manor soon became the headquarters for Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters.
On the outside, Narcissa appeared cold, vicious, and unfazed by the recent events. She spoke succinctly when questioned about her husband’s imprisonment, but refused to give the masses anything solid to go off of. “No Comment” became her catchphrase as she went about her daily life, trying to sweep up the shambles of her reputation. It was a fruitless, tiresome job, but somebody had to do it and she was the only one capable.
Narcissa had been proud of Draco when he had taken the mark. Draco, her strong and charming son had stepped in where his father had failed. Draco had proven himself bold and courageous, and it only served to strengthen the bond she had with him. Time passed and Lucius broke free of Azkaban, but his return to the Malfoy home proved to be less heartwarming than would have been expected. Narcissa was utterly ashamed and, for many months, could not tolerate being alone with him. She found any excuse she could to avoid her husband.
With her husband miraculously still on Hogwarts’ board of governors, some inkling of pride has been brought back to the name of Malfoy, but it is surely not enough. The population of the UK’s wizarding community is not stupid, and Narcissa knows this. They don’t trust Lucius, and they don’t trust her. Why would they? At the second battle at Hogsmeade Lucius was captured again, saved only by Severus Snape who, once again, Narcissa owes a great debt. Unfortunately, repaying him seems a lot more difficult these days.
