She’d had too much to drink, as she usually did when she was partying with her friend Charlotte. It was a problem she had no intention of fixing, unless her liver started to complain overly much about it. She was only nineteen so she still had a couple years yet to work on being a stuffy adult who didn’t have fun. Besides, she was an auror in the middle of what was becoming a big fiasco of a war and who knew if she would have the chance to become a stuffy old adult when this was all said and done? That was a depressing thought, so instead she turned it to the task at hand: the asshole trying to sell her a carpet while she was giggling and stumbling back to her flat with her friend. “I’m not buying a bloody carpet,” Iris blurted out before the merchant was finished with his stupid speech about carpets and thread count and something about a treasure from India. She could have misheard that last part, it was a little hard to catch everything that was going on in the world at the moment. “Oh, yes! It is certainly a very bloody carpet,” the man continued eagerly. He apparently couldn’t take a hint. “It has a very bloody history of people killing for it, as it is a magic carpet that flies faster than a broomstick and is a much smoother ride!” That caught Iris’ attention and she began to grin, shaking her friend’s arm. “Char, imagine Oliver’s face when I come at him at the goal on a carpet, for Merlin’s sake! He might drop right out of the air. We could travel to... To... Arabia! Is that a place?” She looked to the guy trying to pawn the carpet, who nodded eagerly. “We could find treasure!” She continued, swaying on her feet. Before she could change her mind, she pulled out her purse and dropped a few galleons and knuts in the man’s hand and snatched the carpet, giggling madly. She could find enough treasure to buy Sir Whiskers a kitty castle with a moat and everything! Then Andrea wouldn’t be picking on her for having a cat. She’d have to bow to King Whiskers in his pretty palace and beg for entrance across the moat! This seemed like a very good idea to her. Then again, so did taking a few more doubles, sitting on the carpet with Charlotte, and jumping off the balcony of her flat. |
