Personality
LIKES:
Traveling: Summer holidays are always amazing, because she very rarely spends them at home. Her family’s financial status and her father’s business allows her to travel the globe, going practically anywhere she can dream up. The less time spend at home the better; Daphne is easily bored when she is kept cooped up in one place for too long.
Dragonology: Though the entire field of magiczoology fascinates Daphne, she’s most interested in dragons. Because of this fascination she was utterly pleased to find that her wand core came from the heart of a rather temperamental Hungarian Horntail that had been put down after causing quite a fuss and taking out nearly an entire village. It is her belief that her wand core matches perfectly with her personality. Daphne hopes to become a dragonologist upon her graduation from Hogwarts.
Blaise Zabini: she likes him – not like like but… she respects him. She’s found out what he’s up to and she’s more than willing to help. The kid has balls for trying to pull this, she’ll give him that much… even so, she’s not going to let him get all the glory, so she’s started getting her hands nice and dirty. One can never start kissing ass too early, can they?
Superiority: Daphne loathes being bested in any capacity. She hates those who are smarter, prettier, more talented, or more wealthy than her on sheer principle. And god forbid someone gets more positive attention than her – she will act out and stomp her foot until she’s in the spotlight.
Severus Snape: The guy is practically a mother hen to his house, so it’s been increasingly hard to not like him. Professor Snape grows on her more and more each and every day. She may not like his often brash methods of teaching, but she certainly respects him for the way acts outside of class.
Her mother: While her father is off coddling Astoria, Daphne is inching ever closer to Mummy. Lucille Greengrass favors her, so it’s no surprise that Daphne loves her deeply and often plays innocent around her. Lucille spoils Daph, so there’s very little for Daphne not to like.
Mind Games: To say that Daphne was a conniving little brat would be an understatement. Daphne has, over the years, mastered the art of planting the seed that will cause someone to crack. She finds great pleasure in tricking people with words, or leaving them questioning the meaning behind her turns of phrase until they hit the point of near insanity.
Purebloods: She may not be kind to them or like them all personally, but Daphne certainly can appreciate the nobility that comes inherently with being a pureblood, and therefore respects them about as much as she can.
Gossip: Though she is careful to keep her name off the lips of others whenever possible, Daphne is a sucker for the rumor mill and often finds herself weighed down with everyone’s secrets. This goes hand in hand with her love of mind games, because spreading rumors or letting slip dirty little secrets is the easiest way to watch someone crack.
The Great Lake on Rainy Days: There’s nothing quite like watching lightning strike the surface of the water, and Daphne gets to do so quite often. It’s even lovelier when the water illuminates and she can see it from the porthole like windows of the Slytherin common rooms.
Hexes: Though Daphne has very little patience for practicing much of anything, she’s found that hexes are quite fun to work on where you could get your hands on a first year or two. Of course they’ve all backfired a good number of times and Daphne has seen the inside of a hospital wing divider curtain more than once, but it’s all been worth it in the end.
Warm Weather: Daphne has absolutely no tolerance for the cold, so it’s always quite nice when winter rolls out and summer rolls in. She loves the feel of summer’s sun on her skin and the cooling yet comfortable rain that pours from the sky more often than not. Summer is definitely her favorite time of year for this reason.

DISLIKES:
Her Father: It seems that her father has all but grown bored of his life, particularly his wife and at times Daphne, his eldest daughter. For more information, please see dislike 1: Astoria.
Winter: It’s cold, it’s wet, and there’s snow. Sure, the snow everywhere is gorgeous, but when Daphne has to walk through a foot of it and her school robes get soaked and her knee socks get wet? There is absolutely nothing pretty about it. Easy as it is to dry her things with a spell, she’d rather not get wet at all, especially when that wetness is absolutely freezing.
Transfiguration: This is a rather petty dislike, because she is actually quite good at transfiguration. The problem here lies in the fact that Astoria is better than her at it, and that has quickly led to frustrations over the subject.
House Elves: Truthfully, Daphne would prefer to forget the tiny creatures exist. She knows she’s supposed to use them as tiny little clumsy butlers of sorts, but she’d rather not. She may be vain and jealous, but Daphne is not lazy and she is more than capable of taking care of herself and cleaning up her own messes, especially now that she’s old enough to use magic out of school.
Waiting: Patience is not one of Daphne’s seemingly few virtues. She has no will to wait for good things to come. She’s rather prone to stomping her foot and demanding things come now, rather than later, tomorrow, or next week.
Disrespect: Though Daphne is cruel and harsh, she knows how to respect those who deserve it, and she’s rather prone to becoming appalled by people who do not know how to act around their superiors. She also demands respect for herself regardless of the source, and expects everyone to know this without her having to tell them. She is a pureblood and a Greengrass for Merlin’s sake; they ought to know how to act.
Rubeus Hagrid: Despite the fact that he teaches Care of Magical Creatures, Daphne finds his utterly apparent favoritism of Harry Potter and his band of misfits appalling and she has filed more than one complaint against him for it, which, much to her chagrin, have all been ignored.
Albus Dumbledore: Daphne is going to find a muggle gun and shoot herself if she has to listen to one more of his speeches. None of them make sense, and she’s quite tired of hearing the old bat babble. That, and he’s also shown obvious favoritism when it comes to the Gryffindors and anyone associated with Harry, which really should be against the rules. Headmasters should not be allowed to play favorites.
Werewolves: Daphne isn’t going to lie and say that the hairy, full-moon bastards don’t scare the shit out of her. She’s been quite careful not to eat the food in the Great Hall since discovering Voldemort’s plot, and she’s been trying to scope out a very safe place to hide when the next full moon comes around. The last thing she needs is to get caught up in all that mess. She’s been having an insane amount of nightmares about being turned into one of those vicious things, and she really doesn’t want to think about it.
Being Hit On: Alright, so being hit on is fine – it’s just when the boys start pulling out the utterly cheesy lines that Daphne has a problem with it. She likes a guy that came come up with something new and creative. If you can’t make an impression with her, you’re not going to get very far in your attempts at courtship; be advised now that Daphne is not afraid to shut people down when she grows tired of hearing them talk.
Detention: This should be fairly self-explanatory. No one likes detention, but Daphne is pretty sure no one likes it less than her. She’s seen the inside of the trophy room more times than she’d like to admit; in fact, it’s quite possible that she knows every name and every award that line the shelves by heart.
Mudbloods: This goes without saying. Like many others who share her loyalty to the Dark Lord, Daphne utterly loathes those who taint the magical names and community. She believes without a doubt in her heart that they should be snuffed out, and she hopes she can help with that.
Failure: Daphne has always tried to appease her father, and as such has gone above and beyond his expectations. She has taught herself that failure is unacceptable and therefore does not tolerate it from herself or from others.
Umbridge: Sure, she very clearly favored Slytherin during her time at Hogwarts but that didn’t mean she wasn’t a righteous bitch with an abnormal fondness for cats and the color pink. Gross.
Firewhiskey: She tried the drink once on her sixteenth birthday, and needless to say Daphne will never pick it up again. Talk about a hangover.
Ghosts: It’s not like she’s scared of them or anything, but the ghosts at Hogwarts have a relatively bad habit of popping up everywhere you don’t want them. Of course, Moaning Myrtle is the worst, and Daphne really wishes there was a way to silence the bratty dead thing.
Neatness: Daphne is utterly disorganized and she likes it that way. She finds it impossible to focus when everything is neat, clean, prim, and proper. While she likes her physical self to remain put together, she very much prefers when there is a bit of chaos around her.
Harry Potter: Again, this goes hand in with her whole ‘supporting Voldemort’ thing. No real need to go into explicit detail, is there?
Break Ups: Daphne has never had her heart broken, but she knows too well that letting someone down easy is nearly impossible – at least in her experience. She has too little patience to listen to the begging, crying, or pleading that comes with dumping someone, even if she feels bad about. [/ul]
STRENGNTHS:
Blunt: Some people might argue that this is a good thing, but that’s only because the truth hurts. When it comes down to giving her opinion, Daphne is totally straight-forward and will tell you like it is with no compliments or fluff to soften the blow.
[/ul]
WEAKNESS:
Impatient: As stated earlier, Daphne, like any other true Sagittarius is prone to massive amounts of impatience. Whether the wait is ten seconds or ten minutes, she isn’t going to like it, and she’s probably going to complain.
Talkative: Like her sister, Daphne Greengrass has the reputation of being a bit of a motor-mouth. She hits the ground running first thing in the morning, and once she starts talking it’s damn near impossible to shut her up.
Pushy: This goes hand in hand with being impatient, so I’ll direct you upwards.
Easily Bored: Daphne often loses interest in things quite quickly, and as a result constantly needs new things to keep her occupied and interested. This is part of what keeps her such an active part in the rumor mill, and also what spurs her to travel as often as she can. Newness = excitement.
Irresponsible: When it comes to keeping her eye on things, Daphne tends to get caught up in her own continent-sized ego and oftentimes loses track of it. She’s also rather bad at keeping secrets about others, though she’ll vehemently deny such a thing with the excuse that the only reason she lets things slip is so that she can watch others flounder.

OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Though many people perceive Daphne Greengrass as being a one-dimensional twit, there is far more to her than her materialistic ways, even if she does not realize them herself. That said, she is a rather vain individual who bases her worth and the worth of others not on their capacity to be decent people, but on how much of something they have. To her, ownership is everything. Wealth denotes power, and power demands respect. That’s all there is to it. Regardless of that, however, she can be fiercely loyal to those she deems deserving, impossibly determined when it comes to getting things done, and –though many people argue this to be one of her less favorable traits – is brutally honest when times call for it. She really is a hoot at parties, though, I swear.
There is a gentle side to Daphne that does care about things. Mostly she shows this to animals, as she has always connected with them more than she has to people. She struggles to open up, but most people can see a definite change in her outlooks and personality when she is surrounded by creatures of any variety. It is oftentimes a welcome change, and though it can turn in the blink of an eye, she is a relatively kind and accepting person when she is in the company of animals. They trust her, and she trusts them, creating a mutually beneficial relationship.
All of that aside, it is safe to say that there are a great many people who don’t like Daphne. She is a jealous individual and will stop at nothing to get what she desires – especially if she believes that someone is getting more out of it than they ought to. She has an inflated ego and can, at times, believe that the world revolves around her and (to put it bluntly) that the sun shines out her ass. She’s demanding and talkative, and her moods are somewhat unstable. She can go from being your best friend to being your worst enemy faster than a snake can strike, and it often leaves others with a bit of whiplash.

OVERALL HISTORY:
Daphne is the eldest child if Richard and Lucille Greengrass, a well-to-do pureblood couple with a coup on the travel industry of Wizarding Britain. She was born to them about a year or so after their marriage, and was – during her time as an only child – spoiled beyond the belief or dreams of even the most imaginative child. Daphne was their pride and joy, and she remained that way until Astoria came along.
Daphne was nearly two when Astoria was born, and the toddler did not approve of the new found addition to her family. The rivalry between the two sisters started early, at least on Daphne’s end. Whenever her parents paid attention to the younger of the two she would wail, thrash, scream, and throw her toys. She became something of a nuisance for quite some time, though her bad attitude appeared to die down about a year or so later. Of course, the jealousy still remained, but Daphne had grown a bit smarter – as smart as a three year old could be, at least – and was doing things differently. Daphne became rather withdrawn, keeping to herself and her toys and being far less fussy than she ever had, though she always did keep a watchful eye on her sister and often could be found looking on with distaste when Astoria was being pampered more than Daphne thought she had a right to.
Richard and Lucille chalked it up to typical childhood jealousy, which, in a sense, it was. Daphne grew less and less prone to temper tantrums, and grew closer to her mother as he father continued to grow more attached to Astoria. That dynamic remained in the family through the years, much to Daphne’s distaste, though she rarely outwardly states so now.
Daphne’s first sign of magic came when she was five years old. Her mother was doing a bit of writing and had ignored a few very deliberate, biting calls from her eldest daughter, so the temperamental young girl saw fit to turn her quill into a full-fledged bird. Of course, Daphne wasn’t sure how she did it, but there was certainly something charming about watching her mother squawk louder than the panicked bird clutched in her hand.
Little fits of unintentional magic followed rather steadily after that, though they were never quite so dramatic, and Daphne was pleased with the way her parents reacted to her displays. They never seemed to grow tired of seeing just how talented their little girl was, and that prompted Daphne to try to do little tricks here and there. Of course the fuss around her died down a bit when Astoria’s own ability popped up, which only prompted bigger displays from the elder sister.
Daphne was shipped off to Hogwarts in ’91 and was sorted into Slytherin. She happily enjoyed the year, trying to make as much of a name for herself as she could. She quickly fell in line with the others of her house, making friends and forging bonds with those she knew through get-togethers and other such events. It should have been surprising to Daphne when she realized how many purebloods did get sorted into Slytherin, but by this point she had long since been ingrained with the blood purity propaganda and had stopped questioning anything having to do with it. It had long been known that Slytherin was the best house, so it came as no surprise that the majority of Britain’s greatest Wizards were accepted into it.
From her second year onward Daphne tried out for the quidditch team, but never quite made the cut, much to her disgrace. Each denial was a wound to her ego, if only because she knew damn well that she could play. Despite herself she would go to every game and cheer her team on. Her other activities included potions club and charms club, mostly for social networking and to buffer her rather lackluster studying skills in both classes. From her third year on she became obsessed with Care of Magical creatures.
Nowadays, Daphne is sticking her nose into business it certainly does not belong in. Two years ago, when the news that the Dark Lord was back hit papers, she was quick to decide her allegiance. She’s done all she can to get involved in his cause, and being far from stupid, she’s kept an ear out in regards to the other Slytherins. She knew they were up to something almost immediately, and was rather quick to get in on the action. Now she’s just waiting to reap the benefits of her involvement – if she can stand the wait at all.
