Madam Weasley,

You are likely the expert on mothers, what with the size of your brood, so unfortunately it seems it is your advice I must seek.

If one of your children was tasked with something difficult and potentially life threatening in order to keep you and your husband alive, would you be more or less alarmed if they saw fit to keep you spared of the details of what they were doing? What would be the best way to keep you from worrying too much, so that you could take care of yourself and your son child would be able to focus on their task without worrying about making your life stressful?

First off, there is nothing so dangerous that my children would have to do to protect my husband and I. If they were put to face such a task, they should tell me and I would do anything in my power to keep them safe. As a mother, it is my job to worry, especially if any of my children are in danger. As I said, I would want them to tell me, either way is stressful. I like to know what my sons are doing, and I do admit, I fret too much if they do not keep me updated.

Assuming that you believe you must take responsibility for some dangerous task, suggest you tell your mum everything, as soon as possible. She may be able to help and protect you, as I would do for my own children.

Thank you for your prompt response. However, I am afraid it is not as helpful as you may believe. The situation is a bit unique. Consider this, perhaps.

You or your husband got yourself into a bad situation with the Dark Lord. In order to keep you or your husband from being killed, your child had to do something. Naturally you and your husband are aware that this something is due to the aforementioned error on one of your ends. There is nothing you can do but have faith in your child's ability to do what must be done.

In this scenario, what would be best? You know your child must do this and you know what must be done, so are the details necessary? Or do they just make it worse? Or is it the silence that is worse?

I still believe that my child should tell me, with the details. If there is anyway I can help them prepare, any way at all, I would help. It was, after all, mine or my husband's fault, so I would have to do everything I could to help, even if I couldn't complete the task myself. Not telling your parents anything, or leaving them completely in the dark, would only hurt yourself. Your parents should make sure you are equipped with whatever you need.

I do hope this is a completely hypothetical situation, dear.

Well, that is a tough question indeed. If I could change one thing about my personality.... I would probably make myself a bit more relaxed.I find that always being extremely anxious about everyone, especially when I don't hear from them in a while, often leads to more stress.
