Personality
LIKES:
[/li][li]Silence (‘the world is quiet here’). He was never a great lover of noise, in any form, even music. Natural melodies like the wind among the leaves are all he needs to be content, and finds mental clarity best when the silence is deafening.
[/li][li]Horses. Powerful, elegant beasts who show their untamed nature when galloping across a meadow unchecked. One of the few activities he cherished sharing with his mother.
[/li][li]Muggles. Despite his family’s ‘pure blood’ notoriety and dogma, Emilio finds the muggles a fascinating race. As ignorant as children to the magical world, and achieving so much with no magical aid, in the hope that the made a difference in their mere minute of life.
[/li][li]Vineyards. One of the more valuable assets in his family’s estate, Emilio believes. Both in England and France, the vineyards and juniper farms were places of thrill and comfort for the young Rosier, with aroma and liquor to bewitch his senses into Elysium.
[/li][li]Sarcasm. Did someone not once say sarcasm was the lowest form of wit and highest form of intelligence? If so, Emilio lives by that. If the sarcasm comes with humour enough to make him laugh, he'll like you even more.
DISLIKES:
[/li][li]Crowds. Even in life he shied away from large gatherings and social events. Solitude suits him quite well, thank you very much.
Transfiguration. In school he never excelled in this subject, and past experiences with his father have left Emilio with a bitter after taste and aversion for this field.
[/li][li]Death Eaters. Delusional savages, they are. To seek to torture and oppress entire races into their dominion is something Emilio cannot abide.
[/li][li]Love. The romantic component of this powerful emotion died with his mortality, due to a rather bitter end to his last involvement.
[/li][li]Control. Being given orders, rules, any sort of hindrance to a free spirit. Having to hide from the sun is considered a form of restriction, even the seemingly benevolent governance of the Ministry. Emilio’s view of an ideal world is everyone left to their own devices; live and let live, within reason.
[/li][li]Vampires and Werewolves. Ironic, no? What he specifically loathes are the those of his kind, and of the weres, that live recklessly and prey on victims indiscriminately. Giving into primal instincts and abusing their ‘gift’ is unacceptable.
STRENGTHS:
[/li][li]Apothecary and Gastronomy. Emilio is skilled at what he likes, and has refined his skills at calculation and coction in these two great loves. In life, he applied this to becoming an aspiring potioneer.
[/li][li]Judge of character. Mental clarity and the tendency to be as objective as possible allows him to take in a person’s appearance, gestures, words, and come to surprisingly accurate (most of the time) conclusions on their persona.
[/li][li]Stealth and Anonymity. A skill carried over into the afterlife, and improved with preternatural speed, Emilio is able to make himself virtually undetectable and invisible if needed. This works well for one who disdains crowds and attention. Being unobtrusive and easily forgotten in a moment is something he values. He fancies himself an aroma, be it pleasant or offensive; fleeting, and gone almost as soon as it came.
[/li][li]Resourcefulness: His family's wealth, along with his own newfound 'gifts' as an undead allow Emilio to amass whatever resources and materials he requires with relative ease.
[/li][li]Moral apathy: There is a significant grey area in Emilio's 'moral vision,' and ideals of good and evil don't trouble him much, unless it affects him directly. As such, though he despises the Death Eaters, he does business with both dark and light wizards alike, quietly leveling the playing field with each activity, hoping both sides eventually consume each other and give rise an a less controlled world. This, coupled with his resourcefulness, make him an invaluable ally, if you can get his attention.
WEAKNESS:
[/li][li]Anti-social. As mentioned above, Emilio does not do well with crowds. His charm can extend to a handful of people, but beyond that he becomes anxious and on edge.
[/li][li]Passive-aggressive. A trait inherited from his mother, he rarely expresses his anger and emotions properly, and chooses evasion, denial and quiet resentment, holding grudges and seething over slights for prolonged periods.
[/li][li]Comfort and self preservation. The bare minimum simply doesn’t fly with Emilio. He feeds as regularly as needed to remain strong and with the closest semblance of being human. Material comforts are a must as well.
[/li][li]Physical endurance. He always had a low pain tolerance, and was never the most athletically inclined of the Rosier family (a thing his father rather resented). As such physical strength and stamina are not his strong suit. Mental power and stability is his domain.
GOALS:
When he was alive, Emilio aspired to be a Potions Master, even with less than acceptable NEWT in Transfiguration.
BOGGART:
PATRONUS: none
ERISED:
Emilio sees himself, human, lying in a sunny corner of a Rosier vineyard, with a flame haired woman at his side, and two children tumbling about with toy wands.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Emilio takes pride in being a very calm, clear minded individual, even in the face of true adversity, danger, or confrontation. He is never at ease unless he his completely submersed in one of his favorite work activities, which includes horseback riding, imbibing spirits, cooking or concocting. He hates feeling useless or unproductive, and thus is always finding something to keep him occupied. This stems from overly critical self image, constantly in doubt of his worth and accomplishments in life, and fear that he will expire from this world having achieved little. He withdraws from social situations for the most part, though will entertain small knots of company. He only has patience for intelligent and enticing conversation, and does not shun its source; aristocrat or peasant, as long as they can excite his conversational appetite, they may enjoy his company. Hell, he might even skip ‘dinner’ if dinner can keep him interested. Love is no longer a virtue he deems worth his time, and even compassion has trouble squeezing its way out of his dead heart, yet he dotes on children, and anonymously supports the Children’s Ward at St Mungo’s, and keeps an eye out for the young innocents in his territory. Adults should be left to fend for themselves, but the young should be given a fighting chance till they have fledged. Despite his critical self examinations, and his current vampiric state, Emilio tends to be an optimist. He has not yet retreated into himself and become a world cynic. Even his own perceived shortcomings he does not depress over, but rather embraces the fact that he has time to improve. He keeps a trained eye on the light on the horizon, even when stumbling in doubt or frustration for a moment.

History
BIRTHPLACE:
SIBLINGS: To Be Decided
IMPORTANT RELATIVES: Evan Rosier; second cousin, deceased.
IMPORTANT PERSON: His mother, Francesca.
OVERALL HISTORY:
Emilio was born to Nicholas Rosier, of the English Rosier clan, and Francesca Rosier, granddaughter of a Rochfort nobleman. His upbringing was as fickle as can be in an aristocratic family; for all the world saw, he was another privileged brat with the world before him on a silver platter. Of course, every family has it's secrets and skeletons, and the Rosiers were no exception. Though, for the most part, Emilio could reflect and say he had a 'good' childhood; nothing permanently damaging.
Nicholas had met Francesa in France during one of his visits to the french arm of the Rosier clan, and brought back his beautiful young wife to live in England and start his own legacy. Nicholas adored his wife mind body and soul, though, after many years, his body began paying worship elsewhere, though Francesa could possibly still find comfort that his real love remained with her. It was his one and only vice. Not gambling, drinking, violence, not even an affinity for dark arts and blood purity like the rest of his family; simply infidelity.
The birth of Emilio slowed Rosier senior down for a time, but when the boy was older, his eyes began to wander again. Francesca bore the heartache in silence, finding solace in her son, barely making issue with Nicholas, a passive-aggressive trait Emilio would unfortunately inherit. Mother and son bonded over everything from cooking to exploring the vast Rosier vineyards, to reading, to horseback riding. Emilio adored his mother, and sought no other's company, and could spend hours conversing with her in English, French and Italian, without a care for children his own age. Nicholas registered the unusual closeness between his wife and son, but did not react, even when resenting how little else apart from riding horses that Emilio did was considered worthy activities of a Rosier male. This carried on for several years before Nicholas decided to take a firmer interest in his son's development. That came around the same time as the owl and the letter.
Emilio had exhibited magical potency on several occasions. The most recent was at age 10, when his horse shot off from beside his mothers, suddenly spooked and inconsolable, thundering through the vineyard in a maddened state, and finally wheeling on a sharp turn to forcibly eject Emilio from his saddle. The boy should have landed on the cobblestone platform some several feet beyond a low wall, yet never did. Instead, he had inexplicably floated to safety, some 100 yards away, with a perfectly gorgeous juniper berry brush breaking his fall. Both parents stared on with shock, wild relief, and pride as they knew what was to follow soon. Sure enough, nearing his 11th birthday, Emilio was being yelled at by his mother for trying to catch the tawny owl as it made its grand entrance to deliver his letter. To his embarrassment, she made him apologize to the owl (in front of household staff), to which the owl gave a reproachful hoot and took off; they understood the hoot to be a moody pardon.
Emilio made his journey to Hogwarts, was sorted into Ravenclaw (to the pursing of many a Rosier lip), and ploughed through awkward teenage years of magical education, inconspicuous for the most part. His only notable accomplishments were excelling in Potions, and being awarded the Prefect office.
Of course, he hardly applied his authority, not being a fan of confrontation or structured discipline, and would tend to play the role of referee rather than enforcer, subtly supporting the failing contender, to tip the scale back to balance, and would only intervene if things got way out of hand. His tendency to look the other way and be more of a big brother than jailer made him quite popular among the younger students of Ravenclaw house. Emilio kept a few friends, but none that he would consider 'best friends,' typically keeping to himself, and finding entertainment by sitting in room corners, almost mistakable for a shadow, studying people and social interactions, but rarely partaking, unless it seemed hopeful to provide stimulating conversation. In his later years, he would remember many of the second generation Death Eaters that were at Hogwarts in his time.
Even then, they had began to show an inclination and delight in sadism and mayhem they would refine in their later years. One particularly vivid recollection for Emilio was one of the few times he saw it fit to intervene as a Prefect, as a young Bellatrix Black and her little cohort of Slytherin girls spurned and tormented another student. The altercation left him with his signature cheek scar, which, ironically, became an attractive feature. As usual, Emilio made no issue of it, despite concerned encouragement to report it, though he never let go of the grudge against Black and her friends. In his 'new life,' he would gladly seek the offender out and 'thank' them for their kind beautification of his face, if he only knew exactly who had cast the hex.
Life at home became more interesting and more unbearable as his time at Hogwarts progressed. On a Christmas visit to Savoie to visit their French relatives, Emilio reunited with his cousin Leon, who he had not seen since childhood. Leon was a student at Beauxbatons, and quite the aspiring one at that. The young men quickly became fast friends again, a thing not missed by both their fathers.
Nicholas and his brother had always been fiercely competitive, and now projected this streak to involve their sons. Now, every social gathering turned into an opportunity to one up each other using their progeny, much to Emilio's dismay. Leon was virtually the polar opposite of himself; assertive, obnoxiously charismatic, physically adept, loud, demanding, passionate and impressively accomplished at charm work. Leon, of course, loved the attention, and never hesitated to show off, though his desire to compete with his slightly older cousin was a friendly one. As time passed, he began to see the consequence of being better than Emilio, as Nicholas became increasingly frustrated with his 'disappointment' of a son, thus Leon began to avoid playing along, often rebelling against his own father's wishes, for Emilio's sake. Emilio saw these gestures, and was grateful for them, but his embarrassment and his father's constant hounding was no less. As a result, he became even more averse to crowds and social events, anxious that he might be given negative attention each time.
Nicholas' obsession with outshining his brother's family with his own saw many late evenings in secluded corners of their estate, forcing his son to practice Transfiguration. Potions, he felt, was a pathetic field to be exceptional at, and since Leon was the skilled charm caster, Emilio would better him in a more elaborate field. Nicholas himself was an unregistered Animagus, and saw it fit that his son become one, also. Unfortunately, he was not skilled as a teacher, and his 'lessons' deteriorated rapidly into frantic shouts, shoves and vicious insults, while Emilio struggled to grasp magic well beyond his scope; a painful experience both mentally and physically. A tear was never shed, a word never uttered in defiance, simply grunts and unfocused gazes into the vineyard, as Emilio tried to do his father's bidding, simply bottling up all his resentment of the man before him. Rosier senior even began finding himself wondering if the boy was 'damaged,' for the incredibly strange reaction he had to confrontation; or lack of reaction, rather. Emilio bore it all in silence, not even troubling his mother with his father's tyrannical parenting.
By 22, Emilio had graduated from Hogwarts, and begun pursuing a career in Potioneering. A Potions Master was his aspiration, possibly working at the Ministry, and submitting thought provoking contributions to Potions Quarterly. A professor at Hogwarts was a notion that fleetingly entered his mind, but then he remembered: children, lots and lots of children. Also, colleagues. Definitely not his scene. His only hindrance was his NET grade for Transfiguration, though he was determined to work around it and prove himself more than worth it. He did so by studying religiously in Britain, Ireland, France, and, finally deciding to make the jump to Amsterdam. Emilio felt change was needed, and where better to experience it than in the Netherlands, a country so liberal and diverse in its culture, it seemed to be in another world entirely from his native England, not simply in another part of the continent. Here he had his first, and seemingly final encounter with love.
The opposite sex was a perpetual enigma to Emilio, one that he never felt inclined to solve. No number of flirtatious eyes he caught looking his direction made him stir more than to return a smile. His father's countless attempts at arranging his union with a daughter of the wealthy Mr So-and-so were often subtly sabotaged by Emilio and his mother, who, though kind, was quite vain, and did not feel any of the girls measured up to her standards, thus were not worthy of her handsome son. They always seemed to offer very little (though their brothers often seemed more interesting), thus he felt he could give little back. That was not the case with Bianca.
Several months into his studies in the Dutch city, Emilio met her, and their connection was electric and infinite. Under her influence, he his metamorphosis surprised even himself. Almost overnight he was more passionate, more inclined to self expression, more confident and embracing new experiences as if his life would end at any moment. Bianca was merely a few years older than himself, yet wise and learned beyond her years. Her skill at Potions matched his, and she even helped improve his hand at Transfiguration, for a time. Emilio thought of his father once, and only once, before embracing the practice for something that would be to his benefit, no one else's. Francesca received letters from her transformed son regularly, and privately wept tears of joy for him, and ones of sorrow for herself that she could not join him and be rid of her neglectful, cheating husband, who was now occupied with both women, and his family's more shady dealings with vampires. The latter would prove to occupy Francesca as much as it did her husband in a matter of weeks.
His 23rd birthday had come and gone, and Emilio saw no end in sight to days with Bianca, her flaming red mane of curls flying wildly just out of his reach while she laughed with unbridled glee, or draped across his chest as she slept soundly in the light of dawn. But the end was to come, and abruptly so. Bianca's husband was a man not unlike Emilio's own father, though much older and colder. Theirs had been a marriage of opportunity, a chance for both families to strengthen business partnerships and keep the gold and blood heritage 'in the family.' Emilio knew his lover was committed, and unquestionably so, yet cared as much for the sanctity of their union as she did. As he saw it, her husband should thank him for giving Bianca the physical and mental attentions he seemed unable to, due to all his other occupations.
Their sweet dream was startled awake by her enraged lover storming Emilio's humble apartment in order to confront the lovers. Strong words turned to actions as both men dueled to kill, while Bianca futilely screamed and begged them to cease. Emilio's rage and skill, however, could not match the senior duellist, and he was quickly suppressed after an admirable attempt. The young Rosier lay unconscious in a crumpled heap, blood oozing from the back of his skull, while Bianca screamed his name in terror, being forced out of the home by her triumphant husband. Emilio recovered moments later in a dazed rage, just in time to see the husband smiling outside the window, as he and his associates brought the entire ceiling crashing down on him, and left him for dead.
Barely a week later (though it seemed an entire lifetime), Emilio felt life flowing through him again. It was not a vibrant, warm, feel it had been. More like a pale, cold imitation of light, struggling to give warmth. This struggling source of energy was enough to urge him out of the ruined house to lock eyes on those of his mother, gaunt, distraught, but now wide open, both terrified and excited at the being sitting before her. She had brought her husband's practices to Amsterdam the moment the letter from Bianca reached her, informing her of her son's tragic demise. Her sense of loss and outrage was too great to let Emilio rest in peace (?) under the wrecked abode, thus here she stood, the red candle now fallen from her hand and broken in three at her feet.
As she expected, though she prayed to the contrary, the man before her was barely her son anymore. Though, he was more like his old self, than anything resembling the Emilio he had been in the past year. That fire that Bianca had awoken in his soul seemed to have died with him. The remnant embers, coupled with the intense rage he was bound by at the point of death, were just enough to jolt him back to life at the beckoning call of his mother's voice and candle flame, before they were quelled once more.
Years later, Bianca would still slip into his mind, but he never made any effort to contact her, though he knew she was the reason his mother found him. He could not even spare her husband a venomous thought, merely a vague resentment, like he held for Black and her friends in his school days. Passive aggression was his cloak once more.
Years past, and Emilio came to terms with his new 'life,' quickly adapting, and deciding that meager meals were not to be his way of life. He would prey and feed to his content, and be a functional vampire as much as possible. The Rosier's affinity for vampiric dealings made this infinitely easier. For years, certain members of the family had engaged in Necromancy, raising undead to do their bidding, mostly to harness more gold to their fortunes, and to dispatch enemies and defaulted debtors. If the undead servants became too restless or rebelled, they simply summoned another to terminate them and take their place. It was almost possible to split the Rosier family into blood purists and necromancers, though it was not as clear cut as that. Many in the family embraced Emilio's new 'gift,' while others simply denied or dismissed all talks and dealings with his immediate family.
His first move was to regain his career as a Potioneer. He managed to charm and dazzle the owner of Potage's in Diagon Alley sufficiently to gain a place as their concocter. Though the owner recognized him for what he was, he could not pass up such potential to boost his business, thus took Emilio on, under the condition that he never interact with patrons, or make himself visible. It was as if he had asked Emilio to simply be himself. His other move was to purchase the potion store owned by the Rosier family on Knockturn, then offering the out bought relative the position of manager. It was no sense of family that urged Emilio to do this kind gesture, merely the need for a social entity for the business. He would be content being the recluse of an owner, contentedly stocking the store and overseeing all creations. His brilliant career would continue from the shadows, as he liked it.
More recently, after 20 years 'in the blood' Emilio decided to solve his family's problem with fickle unholy servants, and enlist himself as a vampire for hire. He proved to be the most frustrating of all as, though he didn't rebel or escape, he only took up missions he felt were interesting and of some greater outcome. By this time he moral apathy was at its peak, and he suppressed and/or killed vampire and mortal alike, with no though of justice or punishment behind the act, simply a subtle nudge to level the playing field. His method was swift, neat, and untraceable most of the time, earning him the nickname 'le couteau' from his French relatives, and other less flattering nicknames from vampires who caught wind of his heretical acts against his own kind. His stores would also prove to be sources of valuable items and artefacts, if the right person knew the right time and the right words to ask. Light and dark wizards could benefit from Emilio indiscriminately.
He continues to keep minimal company, and maintains a good relationship with his mother, but has started to consider reaching out to more stable members of his own kind, after 25 years of becoming comfortable with his own existence. He had undergone two transformations in his existence, one at the hand of Bianca, and the other at the hand of his mother. Perhaps another would come along and trigger a third. He himself is intrigued to know what the resulting Emilio would be like, if it were even possible. Until then, Emilio Armand Rosier sits at his cauldron, concocting and brooding on the long years ahead.
