OVERALL PERSONALITY:
- The first thought when someone see Hagrid would probably be those of fear and discriminate. His giant size made others fear him and some would mock him for being so different, while some would think he is a dangerous person. However, they were wrong.
Hagrid is the nicest person one could ever had for a friend. He may seems scary due to his abnormal big size, but he is in fact a really kind-hearted person. He cares for his friends (though sometimes he denies it out of embarrassment). When someone is sad, he would try to comfort them. When he is happy or comforting others, he often forget his strength and pat them too hard on the back. But that wouldn't be considered a bad thing because it wasn't intentionally, also instead of hurting people it was rather warm and caring hard pat.
Hagrid is a sensitive person too, people's words usually gets to him and upset him a lot more that one may think, like when Rita wrote horrible things about him on the Daily Prophet, or when Umbridge openly mocked him during his teaching. He tends to get emotional easily too, when someone he cares for gets hurt/killed or when he has to release a 'pet' he really loves he would burst into tears. And whenever he unintentionally put others into danger (such as slipping out a secret by mistake) he would feel very bad about himself and try to redeem it.
He had shown so many interest in magical creatures and plants. He is good at taming animals and he loves them like his own family. He can also distinguish each creature from one another. Not only by their looks but also the creature's persona and recognize them almost immediately when reunited after sometimes. Despite his big appearance, he wasn't clumsy at all when taking care of them nor would he use too much power. However, his love for animal is too great it becomes a dangerous thing. He tends to forget, if not, overlook the animal's dangerous feature, let alone the dangerous outcome of keeping them around the school.
This half-giant is a very loyal person. He wouldn't turn in a friend. However is bad at keeping any secret. He doesn't run around babbling them all out, but often accidentally slip it out during conversation. Then he would realize that and feels bad about himself. After that he would try to do something to redeem his mistake and apologize.
In spite of his kindness, he can be aggressive when seeing friends or his pets getting harmed or teased by others, he would attack who caused it, or at least chase them away. When can't hold his anger in anymore, he would smash things up. He may even grab a person, gripping hard, lifting them up and throw them away during his angry outbreak. People should be glad that he have a high tolerance.

OVERALL HISTORY:
EARLY LIFE:
Hagrid was born in the West Country of England, son of a wizard who was quite shorter than an average human and his mother was a giantess by the name Fridwulfa, meaning he is a half-giant. Due to his father's short height, and that he was a normal human, Hagrid was much smaller than any other giants. His mother lost interest in him after realizing that, she left the house to go back to the giant colony when the boy was just three years old. This broke the heart of Hagrid's father, who was a very caring man and loved the giantess very much. Since then his father raised the toddle all by himself.
Ever since he was young, animals seemed to like him very much and he could make them do what he want. He didn't feel so lonely having no friend because he had a lot of pets. Second hint of magic was when he turned four. His father got him a toy teddy bear. It was so small he could hardly hug it, and he wanted it to be bigger. It actually became bigger, really really big and even touched the ceiling. He clapped joyfully while his father stared in surprise. Then his father was happy and laughed along.
After his first magic hint was shown when he was four, Hagrid's father was happier, knowing his son would become a wizard like him. Still sometimes the father would feel like collapsing of exhaustion or felt sad because he still couldn't forget his wife that the wizard broke down and cry. Hagrid would come and try comforting him. The six years old half-giant would feel annoyed when his father wouldn't cheer up at all and then would make his father laugh by picking him up and put him on top of the dresser. A year later he began helping his father with a lot of things, they lived happily together and they didn't have to work too much anymore thanks to Hagrid's great strength.
STUDYING AT HOGWARTS:
When Hagrid was twelve, an owl carrying a letter flew through the window. It released a letter on the table where they were having breakfast. The letter was small, with a symbol that the boy had never seen before. Upon seeing the letter, his father became overwhelmed with joy. He hugged Hagrid, even though his arms couldn't warp fully around his son, broke in to tears. At first, Hagrid thought he was sad because of the letter and attempted to throw it away, but his father stopped him and explained what it said and that he was crying tears of happiness.
The same day, they didn't go to work and Hagrid was taken to Diagon Alley for the first time to buy very thing he would need to study. Hagrid too, was excited about this. He had always wanted to do the magical things he saw his father did since he was little.
When he got to the 9 3/4 platform, he immediately caught the attention of everyone due to his size. His father reminded him a few things and then urged him to get on the train. Thus, Hagrid waved goodbye to his father, promised he would study good. He was so tall he had to crouch down the whole time before finding an empty room to sit. He was alone the whole time until they arrived at the school. During the ceremony, he got chosen to be in Gryffindor. It was a good time. But then he realized it wasn't as good as he expected. His over-size look had drawn too much attention. He was constantly chosen to be the target for the Slytherins to tease, mock and make fun of however they could think of. Other people weren't very fond of having him around, even some Gryffindor. They would stay away from him. It was even worse after the first flying lesson when he accidentally broke the broom while trying to fly and the Slytherin found it funny. They mimicked him in an insulting way and called him a mountain troll. Poor Hagrid had never been in such situation, thus he would run away to somewhere far from people and hide there, crying. The first semester was horrible for him. He was lonely and hurt. But keeping his promise, he focused on study and spent all his time alone.
During Christmas, he came home with his father. The man was angry and sad when he learned that Hagrid didn't say anything about being discriminated and teased it in the letters he sent home. However, the man couldn't do anything beside comforting his son and told him to be brave and that he should forget what they had done or said because they were jealous of him and his special look.
Second semester came, Hagrid was still sad, but he had learned to live along with it. To fight against his loneliness, he began to wander to the gatekeeper's hut and talk to Ogg, the current gatekeeper. The man was kind to him and they soon became quite close. Some professors also began to notice and came to his aid whenever they saw him getting tormented. One of which was the Transfiguration professor Albus Dumbledore. At the end of the year, He passed all the exams with a decent grade, minus the flying lesson.
He came home on Summer only to find his father lying in bed, having caught a serious disease. The poor nearly thirteen years old boy tried all he could to treat his father. They weren't a rich family, in fact only a little above poor, so all the saved money in the house were spent on medicines but wasn't enough. That very last night, almost 2 months after he had returned home, Hagrid sat by his father's bed side, holding his hand as the man spoke his last words. He hugged his father's dead body and cried until morning. His funeral wasn't big, only a few friends of his father that Hagrid could contact and himself. Of course his mother wasn't there since he had no way of contacting her. After that, he lived with a friend of his father until the next school year start.
His second year at Hogwarts was depressing due to his father's death. The only bright side was that the other kids were probably used to the boy's unusual appearance. They teased him less than before. Hagrid began to take in a lot of different creatures and hide them inside his room or some unused rooms within the castle. He would sneak the food from the great hall outside and feed them, find all the books about magical creatures in the library to read. While being cautious, he seemed to ignore the cause of doing so. Then when they were about to be find out, he would free them into the forest (not after a farewell full of tears though). The boy constantly visit the gatekeeper hut to help Ogg out. All that to make up all his emptiness after the loss. Still, without his father to share his feeling with through letters, Hagrid was depressed even more and would burst out crying everywhere, every time, giving the Slytherin more reason to tease him. He felt so terrible about himself that he just stayed away from everyone. Even talking with Ogg couldn't cheer him up anymore because the man thought keeping those pets were indeed a bad idea.
After his father's death, Hagrid was too young to live alone by himself yet his father's friends were in no condition of taking him in for they also had kids of their own, and he doubted any orphanage would like to take him in. When he was uncertain about what would happen to him, something extraordinary happened. He was called to the headmaster's office. At first he thought he had done something wrong, but once there he saw professor Dumbledore and Ogg there. He was explained by headmaster Dippet that he would allow Hagrid to stay at school during summer, at the gatekeeper's hut and apparently it was Dumbledore who convinced him to make that decision. Hagrid was thrilled with joy and cried right at the spot.
So, Hagrid began living at school during summer with Ogg. It was a very happy time, one of the happiest time he ever had since his father's death. He helped Ogg with works and were taught a lot of things about magical creatures. Sometimes he could even follow Ogg into the forbidden forest too. One time when he was checking the forest with the gatekeeper, Hagrid found a huge as a beach-ball, round and dark purple egg, all alone, by itself... He - once again - completely ignored the cause, and took the egg. He hid it in the bag that he used to collect herbs. After he brought it back, he secretly hid it in a cupboard in the school and searched the library for information on it. Nearly six weeks later, the egg hatched, which was sooner than he expected. He named the spider 'Aragog' then spent his night time (or any free time that Ogg let him do whatever) taking care of it.
Hagrid had chosen Divination and Care of Magical Creatures before moving on to third year. He loved the creatures so much cried like he just lost a family member when he had to return them to the professors. Divination, on the other hand, was terrible as he broke one or two crystal balls and hardly able to read any sign at all. Hagrid continued spending his free time on raising Aragog, feeding the Acromantula food he snuck out from the Great Hall and taught English to the creature. It was a year full of terror as something called 'the Slytherin monster' was attacking students, ended up in the death of a Ravenclaw student and the school was about to be closed. Unfortunately for the half-giant boy, a Slytherin named Tom Riddle found out about Aragog and accused him of being the culprit as he probably thought the spider was that monster, Riddle also spread various bad rumors about him too. Hagrid came to Aragog's protection for he knew it wasn't him who attacked everyone and helped the spider escape to the Forbidden Forest before anyone can catch it. Even then, he was expelled by the headmaster, the Ministry broke his wand apart and he was about to be forced out of the school. He was on the edge of being a homeless child.
Albus Dumbledore saved him again by persuading Dippet to let him stay and become Ogg's assistant as Gamekeeper. Hagrid was thrilled and words couldn't describe his gratefulness and respect he had toward the Transfiguration teacher. And when Ogg was too old and retired, Hagrid became the new Keeper of Key and Ground. When Dumbledore became headmaster, he made it a goal in life to do in best in serving him. Later on, Dumbledore secretly helped him fixing his broken wand and merged it with an umbrella. Hagrid began studying magic on his own after that (and accidentally burnt his bed while practicing Incendio).
FIRST WAR & BETWEEN THE WARS:
During his time working at Hogwarts, he became close friend with some students, such as the those of the Marauders and Lily Potter. He also got along well with most people in the staffs, especially McGonagall - the new Transfiguration professor. He respect her about as much as how he respected Dumbledore when the Hogwarts headmaster was a teacher. Hagrid joined the Order of the Phoenix as soon as Dumbledore began forming it.
He was really shocked learning the deaths of the Potters, it burst him to tears many times that whenever he thought of it. Dumbledore had entrusted him with the important task of bringing baby Harry Potter to his only remaining relatives. He happened to meet Sirius Black on the way and borrowed the flying motocycle from him. After Sirius was imprisoned, Hagrid was frightened thinking he had run into a traitor that very night. With Voldemort gone, the wizarding world slowly came back to normal. But Hagrid also doubted it wasn't that easy for the most terrifying Dark Wizard of all time to die like that, like Dumbledore, he believed Voldemort would be back.
And then eleven years later, he was also the one who got to take Harry to the wizarding world, as well as the important job of taking the Philosopher's Stone back to Hogwarts. The encounter with the boy's Muggle relatives was even worse than how he expected. Seriously, if he had known the Dursleys would treat Harry so cruelly, he wouldn't agree to let the baby go back then. He did a good job scaring them though, and never regretted it. He took Harry to Diagon Alley for shopping and got him an owl as birthday present. But after giving the boy his ticket to 9 3/4 Platform, he had forgotten to tell Harry how to get there and was very relieved seeing Harry able to arrive at Hogwarts.
The Ground Keeper was proud to be able to help with protecting the stone. He lended Fluffy, a Ceberus he bought and raised in the forbidden forest sometime before 1991, to guard the trap door on the third floor. When he heard Harry, Hermione and Ron was suspecting Snape for jinxing Harry's broom, he tried ensuring them there was no way Snape would do so but instead accidentally slipped out some information about Fluffy and what the dog was guarding. After that he was very furious with himself but all he could do was to tell the kids not to go any further into what they weren't supposed to know. Of course it was no use. The trio still tried to find out about Nicolas Flamel anyway. Some months after this, he won a dragon egg from a hooded stranger in Hog's Head Inn, once again he accidentally gave out information while he was drunk. Later he freaked out when hearing Harry and his friends nearly died to stop Quirrell and Voldemort from stealing the stone, and that the hooded man was in fact Quirrell in disguise to take information from him. He felt so bad about himself that he even told the headmaster to just expell him already. Dumbledore instead gave him a day off to calm down. He used that day to write letters to the Potters' old classmate to gather photos of Lily and James. He made a book with all the photos and gave to to Harry to redeem his mistakes.
The before the start of the next school year, while going to Knockturn Alley to buy some Slug Repellent, Hagrid found Harry lost inside the alley and helped him out. Then he had to stop a fight between Lucius Malfoy and Arthur Weasley. Bla bla bla, the Chamber of Secret was re-opened. Hagrid was suspected again, just like fifty years ago. Even Dumbledore couldn't stop the Ministry from sending him to Azkaban, the least he could do was to give the trio a hint to the truth of the story, telling them to follow the spiders. In the end he was cleaned of all involvement in the incidents and was released.
The half-giant was thrilled with joy when Dumbledore made him a Care for Magical Crature professor. He was pretty confident about his performace in his first class. If there wasn't for that stupid Draco Malfoy who refused to listen to his warnings before approaching the Hippocriffs. Buckbeak was angry and slashed the boy's arm with its claws. Then the Slytherin spoiled brat went whining about it to his father and they charged Hagrid and Buckbeak. With the help of Hermione, he tried his best to save the hippocriff, still the Malfoy's influences inside the Ministry was too great he couldn't win the trials. It damaged his confident and he didn't teach the students anything bigger than the Flobberworms. When Buckbeak was sentenced to death, he broke down crying and couldn't do anything right for the rest of the days before the excercusion. Magically, Buckbeak disappeared and since Hagrid was inside the hut at that time, they couldn't blame him for anything.
The Triwizard year was probably his busiest yet. He was tasked with taking care of the Beauxbatons' giant winged horses, helped Charles Weasley with the dragons, breeding a new kind of creature called Blast-ended-Skrewts to teach his fourth year students. He had a crush on the Beauxbatons' headmistress, Madame Olympe Maxime, and they had a rather romantic relationship. But after the Yule Ball, he was sad when Maxime found it offensive when he assumed she was a half-giant like him. Somehow Rita Skeeter overheard the conversation and spread the news - in a bad way - on the Daily Prophet. Hate mails came flying into his hut and he was extremely depressed to the point of handing in a resignation to Dumbledore, though was refused. He then locked himself inside his hut most of the time and didn't want to talk to anyone. In the end, Harry, Hermione and Ron convinced him to come back. Like everyone else, the news of Voldemort's return was shocking to him. And the next morning he was assigned the task of persuading the giant colony not to join forces with Voldemort, along with Maxime.
SECOND WAR:
The negotiation with the giants failed, yet Hagrid found out he had a half-brother -Grawp. Seeing the small-giant being bullied by the larger ones, he wanted to help Grawp and took him along on his way back to Hogwarts. Despite Grawp's agressive attitude and that the giant constantly hit him when he was mad, and the centaurs telling him it would never work, Hagrid never gave up on trying to teach his brother human manners and English. He was surprised to see a rude woman who called herself Dolores Umbridge the Hogwarts High Inquisitor. He expected the Slytherin to be annoying but in his class about Thestrals, Umbridge made it even worse. At first he intended to ignore her, as he denied Hermione's offer to help him with the curriculum, but eventually he agreed not to bring any beast like Thestrals into his classes after seeing the trouble Dumbledore had for defending him after he was put on probation.
Sometime after that, he saved Firenze from the other centaurs who tried to kill Firenze for agreeing to become a Hogwarts teacher, which led to the centaurs' hate toward him afterward. When Dumbledore was forced to leave Hogwarts and Umbridge became headmistress, Hagrid knew the woman could expell him from the school any moment then because there was no one in her way anymore. He took Harry and Hermione to Grawp to introduce them to him as he hoped they would help him look after Grawp if his fear ever came true. As he had expected, Umbridge and four others came to his hut at night and tried to seize him but their efforts were in vain as he wasn't affected by the spells. He thrown one of them in anger after a spell stunned Fang, and then witnessed McGonagall being attacked by four stunning spell at once. He had no choice but to run away from Hogwarts and went into hiding. Only until Dumbledore regained his title as Headmaster could he return. After he learned of Sirius' death, he tried to comfort Harry but didn't really work.
During summer, he found out Aragog was seriously sick and probably was dying. He began to start bringing food to the Acromantula and try to treat him. At the start of this school year, Buckbeak was sent back to him and now was under a new name of Witherwings. Hagrid had expected the trio to be in his N.E.W.T class. But none of the sixth-year had chosen his subject. He was in the sulk and stopped going to the Great Hall for meals, also ignored the kids' greeting whenever he saw them on his way. The attack on Hogsmeade was something he had never expected. And the outcome was heart-breaking, seven students and some aurors died, Harry was badly injured. Hagrid blamed himself for being unable to help much because he only arrived near the end of the battle as he wasn't intended to be at Hogsmeade that day, and plusing Aragog's worsen condition, Hagrid was on the edge of a break down. Not long after it, Ron was kidnapped and of course it didn't brighten Hagrid's mood one bit. And the Ministry's masked ball? Even he could realize it wasn't a very good idea, especially after the Death Eaters openly attacked Hogsmeade, right in front of the aurors (and Dumbledore).

ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE:
(Here is a teen Hagrid post I play on another site)
The forbidden forest had long been a dangerous place. So dangerous it was forbidden and even the Hogwarts professors wouldn't enter if there wasn't something important. Or that was what everyone thought. There was someone who had never found it scary nor dangerous. The teenage boy was walking through the forest. His appearance was something unusual already. As he went, tiny bugs ran away from the soundwave of his feet stepping on the forest ground, small creatures hid themselves into safety as he went passed them. Rubeus Hagrid, a fourth year student of Hogwarts, really never had anything to fear when walking into the forest. His half-giant size was big enough for the smaller predators to stay away from him, instead they stood there, watching him as if wondering what kind of creature he could be.
The rule of not entering this dangerous forest was never stored in his memory. He wasn't afraid of the forest. He even thought it was actually really nice, and full of adorable creatures. Yes, adorable creatures such as unicorns, hippocriffs, centuars... Yes, they were all so adorable. Why would people think they were dangerous anyway? Well, the centuars could be dangerous when you were a stranger, but hippocriffs?! Hagrid took care of a baby hippocriff before, it was one of the cutest pet he ever had. It could be a little angry if people be rude to it, but most of the time it was a kind hearted creature. He even had fire-crabs and salamanders before. However the creature this time was neither any of those listed above. It was different, much different. Hagrid couldn't sneak it into the school like most of his pets due to its 'special' appearance.
In between his great arms, a brown, big as a four months old German-shepherd, creature. The animal was a baby dog with fluffy brown fur, a restless wagging tail and was chewing the arm part of his robe. If it was just a dog, then nothing could've prevent it from entering the school. However, this dog wasn't just a dog. It was a THREE-HEADED PUPPY. Hagrid had found it alone in the forest, probably had lost its family or abandoned due to its weird feature. Sympathized with the animal's situation since it was fairly the same as his, Hagrid had been taking care for the poor thing. He named it Fluffy and when not busy with Aragog, he would come into the forest and play with him.
"Ah, yer don't have ter keep lickin' me like that" Hagrid laughed then set the dog down and it turned back, licking his hands. He searched around in his wizard robe for awhile before taking out a bag full of bacons and other kind of meat. He opened it and began to fed Fluffy, along with teaching him some tricks. The dog jumped up, putting its front paws on to his legs, tail wagging non-stop for the food. "No, no, sit first, I won't give yer until yeh sit... that's righ', good boy".
Suddenly, the three-headed dog turned away and began sniffing and growling. Hagrid startled, a little nervous. Could it be another animal? Or worse, a professor who saw him sneaking into the forest? The boy quickly put the bag back into his robe's inside-pocket and took the dog to a nearby tree-hole, he made sure nothing was inside the hole then put the dog inside. " Stay there. I will be back. No, yer stay here." He ordered the dog to stay still then went to check out what was there.
Cautiously slipping through the trees and bushes, he could see a figure up ahead. So it was a person. But didn't seem like a professor or the gamekeeper, more like a student. The person was wandering in the forest casually, eating an apple as if it was a normal tour for him. Just then Hagrid took a mistaken step. It snapped a big twig under his big foot. A loud cracking sound exposed him. He startled and hid behind a big tree nearby. But it was too late.
"Alright come out of there. I don’t appreciate being followed you.” The man demanded.
Should he come out? He wasn't a professor, maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to come out. After all, he probably didn't know anything about Fluffy, Hagrid could just say he was wandering the forest just like him. Yeah, that should work. Thinking that, Hagrid took a breath and stepped out into the open.
"Didn' mean to follow yer. Jus happened ter be here"
The forbidden forest had long been a dangerous place.
