A sudden blizzard blew over Hogwarts. There was already twelve inches of snow on the ground already. Now the snow that was already on the ground was blowing around. It was nearly impossible to see. The snow was falling down hard. The sixth year Hufflepuff struggled to get through the snow and not get lost. The ground and sky were blending together, it all looked the same.
The icy cold weather was penetrating Susan’s heavy black winter cloak. Her yellow and black knitted hat was caked in snow. Her messenger bag was also caked in snow luckily made out of Welsh Green hide so everything inside was safe. She stopped for a minute to pull out black earmuffs and put them on to cover her ears more. She pulled out a pair of wool gloves instead of the leather ones she had on, the gloves had belonged to her Aunt Amelia and the leather was wearing out since she had gotten them as a fourth year. Susan loved them and refused to get rid of them even when her mum offered to buy her a new pair. Susan began to walk in the same directions. She really should have read the Daily Prophet today, at least the forecast.
Susan’s feet hit snow making her fall forward. She landed on the side of her left arm. She didn’t hear any cracks or pops she knew the worst she had was a bruise or a pulled muscle. She was glad she didn’t try extend her arms using her hands, she would have strained or fractured her wrists doing that. She pushed herself up and brushed herself off somewhat. She was glad she wore two pairs of stockings, the first layer the school uniform black socks and the second layer wool socks. After looking around squinting she realized she was at the Owlery. She had meant to go down to the lake to meet a friend. Oh well, she’d be missing that meeting. She was sure that person hadn’t shown up anyways, it seemed as if she was one of the few people that hadn’t read the Daily Prophet this morning being that she hadn’t seen anyone one else outside.
Susan climbed up the stairs carefully knowing very well there was ice under all the snow. She didn’t want to fall down the stairs at the moment since no one would be around to go get help. No one even knew she was out here. That itself was a bit scary. She reached the top of the stairs and pushed the door open. She struggled to get the door closed but managed. She take the smelly Owlery over what was outside right now. She knew she might be staring here a while. Maybe she could find something to burn for heat. But for now she was going to summon something warmer that her current cloak. She was a huge fan of wool, her family raised sheep for that very product. “Accio wool cloak,” she casted pulling out her wand from her inner pocket of her currency cloak. She tried to sooth an owl’s whose nest was disturbed when Susan’s cloak came flying through the opening. She put the cloak on removing her school one rolling it up and placing it into her messenger bag. She thought of burning one of her old textbooks she didn’t use anymore but she didn’t. She did however pull out her Intermediate Transfiguration book and begin to read looking for any references regarding animagus. She was determined to become an animagus before she graduated, she wanted to prove she was just as good as the rest of her family. Also she honestly believed her Transfiguration abilities were strong enough to become one.
A tawny owl flew over to Susan looking at her turning its head. Susan gasped recognizing the owl. It had once belonged to her aunt, in her will she had left the owl to Hogwarts. Susan knew the will had only been made a few months before her aunt’s death, her aunt was scared and that scared Susan. She petted the owl, she remembered when Amelia first got the owl as an orphaned hatchling. Time sure flew by. It gave a mournful hoot. “I miss her too. I suppose we both have to move on with our lives. We’ll see her again, that’s what I like to believe anyways,” cooed Susan. She found a treat in wool cloak pocket and offered it up. The owl ate it from her hand.
