cause i'll wait "i'm afraid you won't get rid of me so easily" It had been forever ago since she'd been back in her childhood home of Hogwarts. Oh, she hadn't seen it as a replacement for the home she had returned to on Holiday's or for the Summer. She hadn't been one of those children. She had always looked forward to returning to her mother and father at the end of the school year, just as she had looked forward to returning to Hogwarts at the end of the summer. It had been an escape for her in a different sense than it had for those children who had hated their home lives. For her, it had been a chance to expand her wings and fly; to test her own limitations with the minimal interference from adults who - at the time - she had felt were trying to ground her and keep her grounded. And it had been a place for her to appreciate what she had when she returned to her childhood home. But she had always avoided the dungeons if at all possible. Usually she would only have set foot there when going to the dungeon that had held her potions class. And the odd time or two she'd had to serve detention and her task had brought her here. But other than that, she had preferred the lively hood of the rest of the castle; the open windows in the countless corridors that were lit by the sun during the day, and the torches and moonlight at night. Down here, the only source of light was the constant flickering of the flames from the torches along the walls at regular intervals. If they went out, and one did not know how to use the Lumos charm to light the tip of their wand, they would be forced to feel their way down the dark, dank corridors until either stumbled upon a ghost or a Professor to help them out. Of course, the only ones who would have that problem were the first and second years; and there was a curfew to make sure they were in before it got to dark. There was a curfew for all the children now; to make sure they got in to safety. Perhaps it was the Gryffindor in her. Perhaps it was the seasoned Hit Wizard that she was. Whatever it was, she was completely on edge as she made her way down the dark corridors of the dungeons; the flickering flames tossing shadows to and fro along the walls. Her wand was out and at the ready the entire time. She'd been in the game to long to know if you wanted to survive in a war as dark and deadly as this one; you never took anything for granted. Not even the supposed safety of the castle she was currently patrolling. And it was because that safety was in question that she had been pulled from her normal duties to walk amongst the Auror's as part of the added security for the school. The recent attack of Werewolf venom had them all baffled. How had the venom gotten into the school? How had it been given to its various victims? Clearly students were in on it. And whether or not the Headmaster knew enough to stop the attacks was up for grabs. And if he had known about the attacks - or knew someone who did - why had they been allowed to progress? Obviously someone had known. The Hospital Wing had been properly equipped for such an event. Did those who had warned the headmaster find out to late? Or had they just bothered to 'let slip' when nothing could be done? All questions that had answers, but of which were being closely protected. No matter. Her job here was to keep the students - and staff - safe from harm. And that's what she was going to do. But first, she was going to address the set of -almost silent - foot falls coming from ahead of her. "Who goes?" Her wand was held out in front of her in a relaxed manner; looking none threatening but capable of being used as the weapon it clearly was. |
