Even Doves Have Pride
It had been a phenomenally long two weeks. Since the attack on Hogwarts, Severus had been completely bombarded with things to do. The Goyles and Lady Zabini had both required his assistance in funeral preparations, and then there had of course been the matter of soothing the first through third years. That in itself was likely a job meant for ten people, but Severus did what he could, starting with a house meeting. All of his serpents were gathered together to discuss what had happened, and a new schedule had been written up between Severus and the seventh years to ensure that everyone was back in the common room two hours before the school's official curfew. This would award the elder Slytherins extra time to assist the younger ones and would guarantee everyone was present for the newly implemented nightly discussions.
Severus did not make his students discuss what had occurred - in fact there was a sort of unspoken agreement that the hour long talking circles were for anything but those sordid affairs. It gave the children something good to hold onto, and reminded them they were, in fact, but children. They talked about everything from studies to silly rumors - some of which Severus inquired about on his own, making them on the spot just to garner reaction and amusement from the far too harried youth. There was always a twenty minute window to speak with the professor privately and over the course of the past two weeks, two or three managed to take it up every single day. The notable child who never approached was his godson, but Severus chose to let that be.
Amid all of this, Severus was attending frequent meetings with the Headmaster and various Ministry officials as the school began falling under martial law. When he wasn't attending to these affairs, he was down in the hospital wing checking up on Hermione and Lucas - in between his classes, of which he was teaching more than he should have been.
Slughorn had finally decided to do his damn job, and was covering the first through fourth year classes again. Which left Severus with six potions classes on top of his regular sixth year curriculum for Defense. All in all, the ma was sleeping maybe five hours per day and it was absolutely beginning to show. He had foolishly overdosed one of the Healers for working themselves to the bone, and in s doing had shown just how far he himself had fallen. Since then, he'd endeavored to get about seven hours sleep, but it had yet to actually happen.
Which was undoubtedly what had led to this mishap. Albus had failed to realize that they were out of Pepper-Up potion and that the vial he had offered to his exhausted colleague was a much rarer potion meant to assist seventh years who were going for the extra points awarded on the Transfiguration N.E.W.T. for successful animagus transformation. Had Severus realized the mistake himself, he certainly would not have drank it - for though he was not an animagus, he did know full well what his Patronus was.
Severus immediately knew something was wrong as soon as he finished drinking and saw the look of alarm blossoming on the Headmaster's features. It was the last thing he registered before his body twisted itself out of shape, and eventually found a new form on four entirely too delicate hooves.
"Oh, Severus," The Headmaster's voice was booming despite it's soft tone, causing a slender ear to swivel back in discomfort. "After all this time?" The potions master felt his stomach twisting as he looked back at himself, terror coursing through the new body and making him dance back in alarm. This was not happening - no, no, certainly not.
"We had best get you to the hospital wing my boy," Albus commented, aggrieved as he reached a hand out to rest upon the head of his young friend. The doe swung her head around and danced away from him, the whites of her eyes showing as she reared her head back, causing Albus a bit of alarm himself as he sought to calm her. Severus, however, was having none of it. He darted around, avoiding the headmaster as he attempted, desperately, to make clear he had absolutely no wish to be seen like this.
Unfortunately for Severus, Albus either did not understand, or did not care. The headmaster stunned him, and carried him bodily to the hospital wing by way of levitation charm, much to the doe's obvious discomfort. Once he had set Severus down, Albus explained briefly to Poppy that a transfiguration accident had occurred, and he would have to consult Minerva as the accident in question was a bit unique.
The doe glowered as best she could, before a soft sound reached incredibly perceptive ears. As Albus babbled on, the dainty animal lifted her head and looked about, ears attuned to the sound before she wandered toward it, finding a bit of a surprise at the end of it all. Severus could not mistake that pile of blond hair if he tried, though of course the doe could hardly ask what was wrong. As such she did the best she could, nudging the young man with her nose.
